WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

All the thanks goes to colonel00 for this find. Now, instead of having to set a shortcut to a button to turn off the screen, you are now finally able to just hit the power button on the device, and WMP keep's playing!!

Make these changes in the registry:

Code:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended]
"WAV1:"=dword:00000000

Make the changes to registry, hit the power button and leave it off for about 20 seconds to make sure the settings are saved, then reset the device, and try it out when it boots back up!

So far, this has been tested on the Apache, and the Titan/Mogul.

Click here to download the registry file that you can just copy to your device, and open it to make these changes for you in case your scared to edit the registry manually.

naigaboy 11-21-2007 10:08 PM

Edit for previous post.
"Flags" should not be changed. WAV1 is the only change needed. Make the changes to registry, hit the power button and leave it off for about 10 seconds to make sure the settings are saved, then reset the device, and try it out when it boots back up!
For those that made changes to "Flags" the correct entry is below just in case you dont remember what it is, and for those that downloaded the .reg file, it has been corrected in that so you can just re-download again.
"Flags:"=dword:00400000

You are sooooo awsome!!!

delawaresace 11-28-2007 10:02 PM

so i went to do the reg tweak on my mogul and noticed that my flag was way different (something like 41943something), i changed it to the 00400000 and changed the wav1. reset and tested it. at first i could not get it to work. i would listen to some music and then as soon as i pressed the power button to put my mogul in sleep mode the streaming music would pause for a second then start up for a second then totally turn off. i figured out what i was doing wrong though. you cant wait around in WMP. as soon as you press play for what ever your playing, you have to hit the power button before it starts to play. then it works fine. at least, that's how it works for me.

Can you tell me exactly what your flags was? Mine can play for any length of time before I turn the screen off, and it'll still play. So maybe you should not have changed the flags. That setting is set to what we've listed here on the Apache/Titan. Do you have another device?

twistedwaffle 12-03-2007 05:31 PM

Mine just does not want to work, I open WMP, play a song, and hit the power button and it just stops. I've tried following all of the steps and everything, but I just don't know what else to do.

i'm posting from my titan now actually. i don't know what happened, but the tweak seems to work for me now. just as advertised. thanks for this.

EpOxY 12-11-2007 10:58 AM

this didn't work for me, at least not with streaming media... i was streaming an online station through windows media... push top button... i get like.. half a second of sound..
then dead.

sevsev 12-11-2007 01:15 PM

Anyone tried on the CDMA Touch, I'm at work but gonna try it when I get home

m15t1k0 12-12-2007 09:30 PM

With the HTC Audio Manager it works, you push power and it keeps playing, we gotta see what are the changes in registry made by the audio manager...

cnova 12-13-2007 01:38 PM

Will this work on a palm treo 700W .

It should..def wouldn't hurt it even if it didn't. Give it a shot, and post the results..

eazyf2 12-13-2007 06:19 PM

I'm having the same problem of it not working...

to make sure...

All you have to do is change the value from 4 to 0 right?

jepp114 12-24-2007 08:57 AM

no need for a reg tweak

I chose down. So when I start music I push the dpad down and the screen turns off. To light the screen up just push the power button.

Wrong...that is for the screen toggle only. The phone would still be on. The method on this thread enables the user to put the phone in standby mode, and the music keep playing...

So yes, the reg tweak is way better....

BigOil 12-26-2007 04:17 PM

Standby vs screen off

Why is it so much better to have the phone go to standby as opposed to screen off? Does it save more in battery life? Also, I am new to this stuff and want to know what method to use to edit my registry - do I need to download a new app or can I just open the file on on ppc? (I have a WM6 HTC Touch)

BigOil 12-27-2007 06:32 PM

Works (sort of) with Touch

Yes, I just tried it out and it works ONLY with the audio manager that comes with the HTC Touch. I really need this to work with all sound/video apps that one can play on the phone (such as the Sirius internet radio app, TCPMP, WMP etc.) because I am getting poor battery length due to the screen staying on while playing music etc.

Does anyone have a better more universal fix for this?

Fierofiend 12-29-2007 01:31 PM

didn't work on my touch. Power button pauses the file or stream. I can turn off the screen as linked which helps, but won't standby. I can hit the power button in TCPMP and it will keep playing, not in WMP, however.

jepp114 12-31-2007 07:53 PM

Well it works for me with windows media player. Play file, press power button, still playing. I have sprint touch.

It does work with the Sirius PPC app though.... Funny thing. Can someone with the smarts please help us figure this out?

I think my phone goes into standbuy mode....
All the buttons and screen are locked and off except the power button.
But the music still plays!!! Perfect!

That is why this method is better than just the simple screen toggle. Much more pocket friendly...

jstraw 01-14-2008 10:39 PM

This isn't working for me at all. I ran the .reg file and did the power/reset thing and it still shuts off the streaming audio when I push the power button. Should this work on WiFi as well as EVDO?

itsall_cooool 01-15-2008 12:23 PM

HTC Audio Manager always worked this way...

changing a Windows Media Player registry key shouldnt affect other apps unless they are using WMP in the background

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

My 2 cents, I have found it easiest to just assign a button in the settings of the program to turn off display and be done with it rather than waisting time trying to use the power button and ultimately fubar'ing something else. LOL
I use TCPMP most because of its ease to use, eq, and multi format playing. simplest and best in my opinion. tried htc audio manager and lost mms so wont make that mistake again. oh well done ranting nice work to all on the hacks though.
thanks Don

this doesn't appear to be working on the new 3.35 using wm6.1. specifically no2chem's 5054 rom.

Not working on my Sprint Touch. The registry edit does not stick as "00000000". Only as "0".

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

After changing only this setting - my 6800 is using battery faster durring suspend mode (not playing music) - I will change back for now as battery is more important to me.

I think the default value was 4 - can anyone confirm this for me?

Still a nice find though

p.s. other sounds that wouldn't play while suspended also play while this is in effect i.e. if you have a sound for esablishing a connection, you will now hear that sound when a connection is made while the 6800 is sleeping (checking e-mail/weather)...

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

Registry edit didn't seem to work for me on my Touch, but I just did as previously mentioned and changed the hot key to toggle Screen to Hold Down button and it works great, saving on the battery life a bit since I mostly use this thing as a fancy mp3 player half the time ;) Stupid iPhone needs A2DP.

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

ok i just found out that if you use psshutxp (pc style shutdown) and turn off the screen from there, it should still play audio in any program

Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

I tried the above trick and it didn't work....

So I went to HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager\Config and changed the "enter_suspend" DWORD from 1 to 0. Waited 20 seconds, soft reset. Now I can start a song in Audio Manager and it will keep playing when I press the power button....

Give it a shot and let us know if it works for you..... of course, this is just for Audio Manager and not WMP or TCPMP or anything else.....

Re: WMP Keeps playing after you hit the power button!!

big thanks for this 1, I use pandora & couldn't turn off the screen without the stream being interrupted. I made the simple reg edit, rebooted...& it worked.

UPDATE:

This actually lets Pandora stream and the have the screen off but only when the headphones are NOT plugged in.
When they are plugged in the music will play for 5 seconds pause and resume, constantly.

I will go ahead and keep reading, try new things.
