I'll try it with either, I think the Diamond comes with 3.5, but if not, I'll gladly install it.

It's like the night before Christmas, just sitting in bed, staring at the clock.... watching the minutes S-L-O-W-L-Y pass, but instead of waiting for our Christmas presents, we're waiting for our for the new app's big reveal!

It's going to be worse than you think, and it's mostly your fault, EMSChiefNJ...

Because you gave me the idea to implement Outlook-style rules, which will be awesome, but will take extra time to develop. But trust me, it'll be worth it, and a ton better than the way I was doing it before.

Plus, I'm getting married next week, and going on my honeymoon after that. I'll do my best to get as much done in the next few days, but I think you'll all understand if I get a bit sidetracked :)

WOW - fist time I've seen this thread. Sounds awesome. Congrats on the wedding. I will be sure to buy as soon as its released. I have 3 phones I carry and would love to streamline a lot for when I go out recreationally.

Sounds cool I work for Alltel and for the love of god i get a lot of missed calls so yeah this app would come in handy. Also because I carry a touch and a Blackberry curve if i dont have my touch the emails will come right to me. I'll beta test if you need help as well.

i'm back, and all is well in the world. Well mostly. Things around here are in a state of disarray as we try and reorganize and integrate our lives and junk. As soon as things settle down i'll be able to devote some more time into completing the application. I'm probably about 85% complete on the core parts of the application, but maybe only 65% complete overall. Sorry for getting your hopes up for this application for so long, but I promise it'll be done as soon as I can do it!

I'd love to get it done sometime in November... but no promises.

This seems like a very useful app. I'm new to this site (and SOOOOO not a programmer), but am looking forward to watching your progress. Take your time, as your marriage is MUCH MUCH more important to progress with. Congratulations!!

I am very interested in this app as I just replaced my home phone with a third line of service. So I would love to be emailed, and/or SMSed when a call comes in, etc.

Let me know when the beta opens up and I will be glad to test.

Rick

I know, I know, sorry, sorry. Life has been a bit hectic lately (yay for marriage) but I'm actually diving into the code right now.

Man this stuff is scary when you haven't looked at it in awhile!

Aren't there applications that do this already though, like SPB Phone Suite?

No, unfortunately the functionality we are discussing here, specifically the auto-forwarding, as an example, is not an option offered on http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com :violent2:

Re: Developing app for sms forwarding, missed call notification, auto-responding

I would love to have an application like this! I was thinking of writing one, but did a search first and came across this thread. I just wanted to give great thanks to ZaijiaN, and also give him/her (let's face it, prolly him) a link to source code from an MS developer that developed something similar to what he's doing back in '06: http://www.wimobot.com/wmapps/mobilesecretary/

I read somewhere (forget where now) that indicated the app might be for smart phones, not PPCs, but i couldn't confirm that when I tried. I don't know enough about the development environment for WinMo to figure it out for myself right now. The nice thing, though, is that it's written in C#, so I'd hope at least a lot of the business logic in it would be 100% portable.

Hope that helps!

Yah, I started off looking at that code, but the stuff i'll be doing will be a lot more complex than that. I must admit that the mobilesecretary is kinda what started me down this path.

I'm developing a fairly complex rule/criteria framework for handling events and having a lot of user configurability. The business logic behind that framework is rather agnostic, however the stuff is all coded against winmo-specific stuff like Contacts, SmsMessage, etc.

I just finished a fairly major refactoring effort, and things should be moving along faster now. I hope to have a limited beta out by the end of the year.

Wonderful! This will vastly increase the Wife Approval Factor of my phone since I spend most of my time in labs where I can't bring my cell.

why do you need to forward email to email...just goto the website

Re: Developing app for sms forwarding, missed call notification, auto-responding

and call firewall can auto respond sms on missed calls

ZaijiaN 12-22-2008 08:52 AM

Re: Developing app for sms forwarding, missed call notification, auto-responding

I'm not quite following what you're saying, crazychef.

Forwarding emails will eventually be part of the program, but the highest value will be forwarding SMS to email, as well as sending emails upon incoming/missed call events.

Re: Developing app for sms forwarding, missed call notification, auto-responding

definitely a good idea!

Re: Developing app for sms forwarding, missed call notification, auto-responding

I'm trying really hard to get a beta out the door by the new year, which will have the bare minimum functionality:

You will be able to set up rules for events (incoming call, missed call, voicemail notification, new sms message). Rules will have criteria and actions. Criteria can be time of day, who the caller is, what the text of the sms equals/contains/startswith/etc. Actions right now are limited to message actions, where you can send messages (via email or sms) to an entered address, or to the original sender, etc.

Once the base functionality has been ironed out, then future versions will include stuff like GPS reporting, remote admin of the application via SMS, contact lookups via SMS, SMS forwarding, appointment reminders, incoming email rules.

would any of the functionality of dashwire be helpful? they have a wonderful site to archive sms and respond. just not a way to foward it to email. It would be nice to get the visual voicemail to work. a desktop or web based app so you could check your voicemail, it is an option with dashwire just not avail to sprint users.

I bet the code would ;) , but ( correct me if I'm wrong ) this is geared more for phone2phone link, where dashwire only seams interested in the phone2webpage link. also one of the downsides to dashwire is the data/power hungry always sync.

for sprint voice mail, you may want to look into www.gotvoice.com this service works backwards to most in that it will call and check your voicemail, so no fwding charges apply.. only catch is the free service will only check a few times a day.. but that's good enought for me, I rarely listen to them anyway, I just call the person back.. works well to get rid of the annoying notifications

I bet this program will suck. Nah just kidding sounds like a must I don't think i will need it for myself but you never know what the future holds. Just wanted to know will this program work if i just want to turn ringer off? What im trying to say is will this program have a feature like a "do not disturb" feature. Congrats on the marriage.
