Update to Preware 2-22-10

3 Attachment(s)
For those of you using Preware, the latest update (version 9) now allows you to download and automatically install complete themes. Right now there are about 30 themes. Typically the themes change your dialer screen, lock screen, home screen, etc. Some even give you new icons and theme other parts of your system.

I've attached a couple pics from the Original Blue Theme (though I did change the background)

Late,
Coz

New versions out 2-22-10

Preware 0.9.27
Package Manager 0.9.37

Was hinted that these needed to be
updated soon.

Later,

Re: Update to Preware

It's there and can be installed/updated via WebOS Quick Install or from within Preware itself.

Edit: Update the Package Manager service first

Re: Update to Preware

Start up Preware and it should be listed under either "Package Updates" or "Available Applications"

You can also update through WebOS QuickInstaller via your pc.

Re: Update to Preware

Here is a question though... I have read it will be best to remove all tweaks and stuff before updating the WebOS... Which I really hope is next week... Would that include themes? Too bad the default theme isn't going to be on Preware for easy reverting back to it.

Re: Update to Preware

related to ninjas question, does it have a simple remove button like the rest, or is it a once you install, its on for good?

CozBoogie 09-17-2009 06:14 PM

Re: Update to Preware

There is a remove button for themes that you have installed (listed in Installed Packages in Preware). Hitting the remove button removes the loaded theme. After the reboot it seems to revert back to how it was before loading the theme. It seems that my tweaks are all still in place. But I'll have to poke around more to confirm.

Coz

Re: Update to Preware

Pretty sure it is not an "easy" uninstall... Put you have to get the ipk basic theme and reload it via webos quick install.

So, just to be sure... You have installed a theme and successfully reverted back to the default icons and stuff?

Re: Update to Preware

Just un-installed the Blue Theme and my icons and dialer went back to how I had them before. Upon first glance everything else seems to be as I had it too.

But with anything, your actual mileage may vary.

Re: Update to Preware

Trick is just uninstall reboot then reinstall so you don't lose the original theme. It forces you to do it that way.

From what I've read the latest update to Preware which is 0.90 now allows you to update the package manager service OTA through Preware. No need to hook it up to a computer anymore. Woohoo!

Re: Update to Preware

Take a look at this thread over at precentral: http://forums.precentral.net/homebre...0-preware.html

It has screen shots and instructions. Essentially it's a homebrew installer app for your Pre, so you don't have to root your Pre to install homebrew apps, tweaks and themes.

This was irritating to say the least. I would try to access preware and get error messages. I hate having to use the computer to update preware. Looks like things are getting better. First the themes and now the update on the 24th.
