Help with factory restore for Sprint Mogul with OLD firmware

I did a lot of searching, but a lot has happened since I put a custom firmware on this thing.

I wanted GPS with Google Maps, so I installed custom firmware to do so. At the time, there was no support for this from Sprint. I believe there is now, correct?

As far as I can figure I "unlocked" the phone and then installed custom firmware. Installed HTC home and all kinds of other apps, some good, some the may have cluttered up my registry and phone in general.

I want to completely start from scratch and install whatever the hottest setup is. I guess what I need to know is "is my phone unlocked?" do I need to "Re-lock it" and how? Do I have to install the factory firmware before upgrading to the newest?

Details about phone:

On start up, in red letters it says

P DCAAXAM-43508
R 3.27.00
D 3.16

On the Green screen it says "Windows Mobile Version 6.1"

If I view the details by dailing into the secret menu it has:

software version dcd 2.1.0
hardware ver 0003
PRI ver 1.23_003
firmware vers 3.27.00

The first question is: Did you re-lock the phone after you installed the DCD ROM on it? In order to install that ROM you would have to have unlocked the phone. Unless you re-locked it, you're still unlocked. If you just want to add Google Maps, go directly to Google on your phone and download the CAB file from there. The second question is: How did you load your previous ROM? I would recommend BuildOS from PPCKitchen.org. This will allow you to add what you want and keep the superflous stuff off of your phone. The third question is: Have you ever installed the official Sprint update? If not, then you need to do that first. Get the latest and greatest Radio on the phone and this will ensure that your GPS is ready to use. You should start from scratch by re-locking, then updating with the OFFICIAL SPRINT ROM, then un-locking and then cooking your own ROM. BE SURE TO BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW, WHILE YOU'RE READING THIS. WHEN YOU FLASH A NEW ROM YOU LOSE EVERYTHING AND IT WILL NEVER MAGICALLY REAPPEAR.

Here's the site for the official update: http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloa...act=sd&cat=all
Then go here for the info regarding relocking, unlocking and installing custom ROM's: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857

If you don't want to install your own ROM's, you can always find someone else's on here, but you'll need to complete the official update regardless.

Why do you need to relock your phone before flashing official Sprint rom?

You don't NEED to, but he doesn't really know what state his phone is in regarding loading ROM's. He needs to learn about re-locking too, so this is as good a time as any. The phone really should be re-locked with a stock ROM before it's taken in for service or sent back for warranty replacement, so the experience will be helpful.

First: Most likely, I didnt relock it, I just followed the instructions in the thread I found about getting GPS to work on the Mogul. I've had Google Maps working with GPS for a year or so, whenever the ROM that I installed came out basically.

Second: I just followed the steps in the thread I found, a combination of installing CABs and maybe running a program or so and waiting for it to do it's thing, I simply don't remember.

Third: I don't think I've ever installed an official Sprint update, who knows. I think I had Sprint TV on my phone before they put the kybash on that, then I did the custom one. Is there a way to tell if it's unlocked or not? When I was searching about unlocking and relocking, it seemed like doing it was a lot different then it was before.

I know I should search but whats the best way to backup, I tried finding alternatives to activesync as I didnt use outlook, but at the time there wasnt any good alternatives available. I tried PPCPimbackup, but it gave me a byunch of errors.

Thanks btw I really appreciate it in advanced.

If you follow the link to the thread I mentioned earlier, you will find no2chem's re-locker and un-locker programs. They are very simple and will run from an SD card instead of through WMDC. You should load the latest Sprint ROM just to get the newest Radio, etc. You can find these things seperately, but if you load the official ROM you get everything at once. Then run the un-locker and load whatever ROM you find, or whatever ROM you make. For backing up data, if you don't use WMDC, PPCPimBackup works great. Download, unzip and then put the .exe right on your memory card. Run it from there and it will save everything. But make sure you run the .exe from the card, not the PC. If any of this helps, be sure to hit the "Thanks" button at the bottom of the posts. Good luck!
