Changing Memory allocation in BuildOS Roms??

OK so ive been building roms for a while now an love the flexibility of using BUILDOS as it gives me a lot of options in one spot so i can make the best customized ROM I can. The only problem im having with my verizon xv6800 is that once i make my ROM (~18mb) my phone is allways running out of memory!!! when i go to the memory tab i see that about 160 MB is being allocated to storage while only 40 is set to programs. is there any whay to change this?? i know in old WM5 there was a slider i could use but i dont see it anymore. thanks all :)

Do you mean RAM or ROM? The RAM you are stuck with but ROM size all you can about do is the EXT ROM. If you were to run Oxidos CloseApps and Hibernate you could keep your free RAM. Also you should look into nueROM3.

So this is what my phone tells me when I go into settings:

RAM Size: 64
Program Memory: 46MB
Used: 29MB
Free: 17MB

Flash Size: 256MB
OS Memory: 90 MB
Storage Memory: 165MB
Used 12MB
Free 153MB

Im looking to minimize the 165 to lets say 60 and take the leftover space to OS Memory to run apps. I have an 8GB MicroSD card and put most of my apps there anyway. Im having problems with memory right now and apps are crashing. Also, where is the 18MB of RAM that im missing and which one (RAM or Flash(ROM?)) is more important?? Thanks for the reply.

This could be found out with a bit of searching. Windows Mobile doesn't report all it's RAM and uses ~40MB of it. Also, you're confusing RAM and ROM memory. RAM is temporary storage for running programs where ROM is permanant storage that doesn't get reset each time you power off the device.

You're confusing modern Windows Mobile devices with much older ones. The early ones had only RAM for both storage and system memory, and you could use a little slider to adjust how much was used for each. Eventually they finally switched to ROM for the storage so the data wouldn't be completely lost every time you lost power to the unit. This means they're completely separate. ROM is drastically slower than RAM and has a limited number of writes before it dies (luckily it's well into the thousands, so you'll never run into it through normal use). So there's no way to turn the ROM into RAM.

As for your problems with memory, join the Titan-owners club. That's called every day.

So im confused - are my memory issues RAM or ROM related? if i was able to change my ROM memory usage would that help in any way? i tried some searching with keywords "memory, optimization, Application, reconfigure" and didnt find anything that was helpfull to this topic. Is the titan owners club a forums or something?

is there anything i can do to minimize the RAM being used? i used task manager 3.1 (stored in the SD card) and see these as the files using the most memory:

device.exe 2654kb
gwes.exe 2020kb
filesys.exe 1969kb
cprog.exe 1802kb
shell32.exe 1246kb
Services.exe 256kb

also when i add every thing up it equals ~14mb - when i sue oxios memory it says im using 20mb

i also went into servicesa nd turned off all bluetooth stuff as i dont really use it. any other ideas? thanks.

I'll make this as simple as possible: You are not having any problems that the rest of us aren't having. These are normal problems with the Titan. Its available RAM is terrible, and forces us to constantly use utilities like Oxios to recover SOME missing memory, and soft-reset every day or two to clear up the rest. This is life with the Titan.

Oxidos reports 20MB free, not used. You can learn how to flash your own ROM and do nueROM3 (there is a thread by GaMedic on how to flash your own ROM). With nueROM3 you can get 30MB free with the camera disabled.
