SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
I saw a post suggesting that ROMs flashed from an SD card installment would have fewer issues than one flashed with a USB PC connection. I have the overall sense that my SD card flashes tend to go more smoothly, but it may just be placebo effect and my enthrallment with how quick they flash that way.
Anyone have any evidence one way or the other? I would have thought the ROMS would be the same no matter how flashed, but...? I have never really checked one flash method against another with the same ROM and same device. |
Re: SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
the issue most often seen with usb flashing is connection erorr. if activesync didn't connect right, or if the plug comes out while flashing. In that sense SD would seem better, but in general, it is just the opinion of the user. I flash via RUU all the time now and used to flash via SD. sometimes I feel the time to rename the file and transfer it to sd and all that is the same as RUU. So it really depends.

Flashing from RUU when the device is already in bootloader is the exact same as flashing from the SD card IMO.

it's both the same but via sd card seems way faster for me

Re: SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
SD card is better but if you do a stock ROM there are usually a couple extra files that a RUU would send that a SD card flash wouldn't.

Re: SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
As far as the final result, there's no advantage. You get the same ROM on the same phone either way. The advantage flashing from the card serves is no ActiveSync connection issues, no requirement to use a compatible OS, and the ability to easily flash when not in front of your computer. I also find it flashes faster. To me it's a big deal to have several stable ROMs sitting on my card so if I suddenly have a major problem (like 5069j's time bomb), I can easily plug the card into any computer, move the nbh file I want into the root, and flash it. But in general it allows me to just throw a new ROM on my card before I leave for work or something and then flash when I have time. Very convenient.

I agree convenience is the main thing from SDcard......I flash via RUU all the time, but I do keep extra roms on my card, in case I need a sudden flash...as far as stability both are definitely the same..... |
Re: SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
yeah ability to a flash regardless of location and it flashes quicker and the fact you don't have to worry about the device becoming disconnected from the pc, etc...

Re: SD Card vs. USB PC Flashed ROMs
Just an FYI.....I have never had a disconnect from the PC flashing via RUU......
