I want to use Kitchen for 6800 but don't want GPS

How do i go about this? Will the Olipro Unlocker work? From what I've read in the tutorials nueSPL and Olipro are both for unlocking and allowing GPS enabled rdios and ROMs and you have to use GPS enabled radio for nueSPL (i didnt find anything about Olipro)... I just want to upload a new ROM, dont want the GPS at all... Just nervous because i dont want brick a new phone... Any help is appreciated

May I ask why you don't want GPS when:

1. It's free
2. The roms/radios that are GPS enabled are much newer/better/more stable

Why don't you want GPS? There is no reason not to use it.

honestly, im not a huge fan of "the people that be" having access to that sort of info... just a product of too many crime investigation TV shows i guess... i know i can just leave it at home (or not do stupid things) but if i can do the ROM updates without having to enable the GPS i would be a much happier person...

You don't have to have GPS enabled. It's a simple matter of turning off the GPS settings once you flash. If you ever needed GPS you could enable it but the popos won't track you unless they have a warrant. Just flash it and disable it in the GPS settings part of the hardware.

the GPS has no barring on being tracked or not. thats done through the AGPS anyways that you CANT turn off. every phone made in the last 5 years or more have had that feature the 6800 just happens to have a real GPS chip that you can use for navigation.

You will be "trackable" regardless if you have a non GPS rom/radio or not, through the carrier and 911 triangulation.

Lay off the ganj, it'll help with the paranoia

BIG Thanks for the info guys... I was actually gonna comment on the fact that "they" could probably track it GPS enabled or not... didnt take the time to research that... anyways, time to get my a$$ in the kitchen! thanks again :)

im guessing that the AGPS can only figure out where you are at in real-time whereas the gps software/hardware might actually keep logs... either way thanks for the help MrObvious & Mylt1...

The carriers keep data allowing the travels of your phone to be tracked by its history of connections to cell towers. There has been some controversy about carriers having provided this data to law enforcement without a warrant.

Exactly. It's easily obtainable by any law enforcement person that requests it.

GPS or not your phone connects to towers and they can track you based on that. Go phoneless when commiting a crime

That's right, I forgot. The pre 3.35 radios could do GPS, but only for 911 personel.

The GPS chip on the device is a passive receiver. It does not transmit anything unless a specific software program is monitoring the passive incoming signal from the geosynchronous sats.

The only reason to disable it permanently in the ROM is if you think it has any bearing on power consumption. I am not aware that it runs unless polled. So that is not usually an issue.

True, but calling 911 or any time a law enforcement gets a warrant or do an active investigation they will track your phone through GPS. The 6800 is no different. It is part of the FCC's laws. So even if you disable Google Maps from using GPS the authorities can still use it to track you. The only way is to physically remove the antenna or something if you want to avoid that.

In reality, it's not practical and you should just flash a GPS enabled ROM and go ahead and get it set up.

You can disable 911 tracking on your phone. It uses triangulation via tower signals and has nothing to do with the GPS chip. All cellphones (even those without physical gps chips) can be located with the triangulation method. The Mogul has a toggle in the phone options to turn it off !!! Makes aGPS fail (thus the physical GPS chip takes longer to get a satellite fix on a cold start).
