Total confusion has set in...

Please forgive me...as a NOOB, over the last month, I have spent many, many hours reading threads here, at XDA, and in other places trying to learn in anticipation of the Official Verizon update. My wife is starting to become irritated with me.... If I don't get this straightened out, this will be me when she gets done with me:
:violent2:

I can't seem to figure a clear direction from all I have read. I am the proud owner of a VZW XV6800 that is still in possession of the stock radio and ROM. Ok, ok, stop laughing please....I'M SO CONFUSED !!!!!!

I have read the WIKI's and various guides posted by different individuals for different carriers. Each one has their own choices for unlockers, bootloaders, radios and roms...and each one says their way is "the way" to go.

So how does one know which way to go? How does one sort through all the information to know what would be best for the Verizon network when I decide to dive in to this?

It all depends on your or your wife needs, search fro whatevers in the new rom you wanna flash, if they have gps opera mini which is a really good web browswe skyfire which if better than opera only bc it plays video right on the net unlike opera but skyfire is slower, it just all depends on your needs ans wants if you dont like it uninstall it and your good to go, read these old posts about these apps and you'll learn from there.

Well my wife and your wife can hang out and ***** about us while I help ya out with your phone ;)

I feel your pain on the endless reading with multiple opinions. So I'll help ya a little since I'm on Verizon also.

First (my opinion) DO NOT use the 2.47 spl to unlock your device. We have found Verizon Phones can be flashed back to OEM if needed with no adverse effects.

So here we go....

First ... Do you have a 2gb mircosd or smaller?

Re: Total confusion has set in...

First put the radio of your choice on your sd card and name it TITAIMG.nbh. Make sure it's not within a folder or anything.

Then unlock your phone with hard-spl 2.40 (I will provide a link) You will need to have your phone connected via activesync to execute this procedure. Please make sure to follow the directions on the screen exactly.

Once you do that, insert your sd card the reset your phone into bootloader mode (power+camera+reset button) The bootloader will see the file on the card. Just follow it's directions.

Once that is done you can install the custom ROM of your choice aslong as it's compatible with your radio version.

Ok, so what about the customizations? should they be allowed to run or not? I have seen different things on this in my reading...

LOL, even though I have a sprint mogul, I'm watching your thread. I've spent MANY MANY hours reading & loading, and just had to do my 3rd hard reset. ](*,) Hubby has already suggested I marry the phone..........

You wont have UC if your don't select it. Unless your flashing an official ROM the UC is now going to be owner dependent in most cases. Just read the authors thread to be sure. Example... I run DCD 3.2.5 and I didn't select the UC because I cooked everything I wanted into my ROM.

Now that's funny... LOL I can definitely relate... It's nice to know that I'm not alone out there in my desire for gadgets...

Re: Total confusion has set in...

This customization thing is the biggest source of confusion for me... If I use someone's ROM...say DCD 3.2.5 like you are using, will my phone banner on the home screen still say Verizon Wireless or will it say Sprint, or something else?

Re: Total confusion has set in...

so why do you support 2.4 over 2.47?

the phone will run better with 2.47 and it is easier to flash via sd.

I prefer DCDs latest rom but I can't wait to try nuerom 3.0 when it comes out.

don't worry about it. nothing is actually installing during this phase (on dcd at least). even if it did it would not affect anything carrier specific.
i can't speak for anyone elses roms except no2chem. his work for all carriers as well.

Just download his kitchen and other requirements (.net 2.0 or higher). Put any OEM's into the OEM folder within the kitchen. Then click on the buildnb file. BuildOS will start up after 30 seconds to a minute. Select all the components you want (leave out UC for now) Click the play button wait for it to finish (the BuildOS window goes inactive during the process and then we reactivate once it's done) Then close it and buildnb will continue. Eventually the RUU will start up and just follow the instructions.

So once all of this is done, then do I have to run the Verizon carrier .cab file I have seen? And will this cause me to have to call Verizon to get a new Authentication key?

Yes exactly. Tell them you performed a hard reset and it will not authorize a phone call.

No horror for me. You will need to get GC's Arcsoft so you can have picture messages though.

I'd recommend 3.2.5 and radio 3.39.10. The GPS is awesome with that radio for me and a few others. It's worth the intial try, worst case you can upgrade it to 3.42.50 within 10 minutes.

Not too sure to be honest. I don't watch video's on mine.

sorry...my bad....I meant video messaging?

Re: Total confusion has set in...

I just realised where you are from and you might possibly need the strongest radio which would be 3.42.50. I grew up an hour north of you so I can say the terrain may torture your signal as it is. I'd still try the other first. It'll be worth it if you end up with my results.

Arcsoft will do that I believe. I have an option to attach one. I think the size of it may be your only restraint.

So far not worth it. I'm currently testing the radio. It's ok but it's not worth getttin all excited about. The ROM is a nightmare at this stage. We'll the UC mainly.
