WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Has anyone else experienced the problem of running out of juice when on WMWifiRouter for extended periods of time? Seems like data connection + wifi drains faster than it can replenish....
or do i have a bad battery? |
Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Yes, I have. If you don't already have it, go to No2Chems website at http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/page/Pocket-PC.aspx and download the advanced power control panel. It has a great feature that shows you the current being used and the current coming into your device so you can see just how much power is required to run all those radios. With that app I have seen my output up to about 550ma, which is higher than a USB charging cable will give you. I even bought an aftermarket AC charger which claimed to charge at 1amp but have not been able to get more than about 500ma out of it. My OEM charger gets up to about 900ma (it is rated to 1amp), so with it I am able to tether all day and use Wifi without losing battery power.

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Nope it happens to me to as it is fully driving 2 radios the cellular and wifi. However it seems to deplete just alittle faster than it charges and my battery drops maybe 5% per half hour if that when I'm using wifi-router with the phone charging.

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
I've heard that it's more an issue with the heat than anything. Hot Batteries are not charged very efficiently and under more extreme circumstances it can cause the charge process to stop completely until the phone cools down. I've ran WMWIFIRouter for 24+ hours on full performance without an issue. That was with the phone propped up and a small fan blowing on it. I've seen a fully charged newish phone die in less than 4 hours while charging with WMWIFIRouter running when it was laying on a blanket. Heat seems to play a very important role here.

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Yeah, I've noticed it with chargers that can only put out the 500ma that USB is rated for. As was mentioned by tenpin, the OEM charger puts out more juice and can handle wifi with bluetooth and EVDO data.

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
No, you are charging more then you are using. What is happening is your phone is overheating and stops charging when it over heats. The WIFI + internet + charging causes it to over heat
I'm sure you have noticed the orange blinking on the top of the phone..that is an indication of overheating..just aim a Fan at your phone or lace it next to air conditioner. ________ Restless Leg Syndrome Advice |

Have you tried turning off the display + backlight? Should save you 100+ma load (and a bit of heat)

that is me, 4hrs run time on a full charge. depletes down fast but it gets hot instantly. I will throw it in front of my fan, see if that makes a difference. I always turn off the backlight, the lcd, and slide it open. I just never used a fan. I do see the orange light blinking at the top, so I am sure this issue will be solved. Let you know around 4 this afternoon when I am done playing poker at work ;-) haha |

This problem has been driving me crazy. Will try with a fan tonight. Thanks gTen

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Heat is definitely the issue. I take off the battery cover, slide the phone open, and set the phone horizontally upright in a little home-made holder, and make sure there is nothing around it. This seems to work 99% of the time for me.

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Fan has kept my mogul happy for hours now. Not a hint of overheating now that a fan has been blowing on the device. YEAH!!!

Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
Ok, so I took the back cover off and stood the phone upright with it slid open. Started with a 40% charge. After 4 hours of use, I was only down to 35%.....huge improvement. It was definitely the heat.
Ahhh, now I can play poker all day at work without my phone dying in the middle of a tourney :) |
Re: WMWifiRouter + Charging = More output than input?
well, it won't do anything about the overheating, but it will let you tether (sync) and charge with 1amp. I ordered mine yesterday.

-would like to know if the extra boost in charge increases the heat expulsion. -how quickly it charges -quality of build of the charger unit Thanks! |

the only reason it would increase the heat (over a standard 1amp charger) is having activesync running (but I usually disable that unless I need it.) in my experience giving the phone 1amp keeps the heat down, as the most I've seen it draw is 830mah, so that's still ~150mah trickle for the battery. obviously, it will all depend on the quality of build.. based on the reviews I don't expect top-notch (monster cable) quality, but then again it's only $7. and it seems it works as advertised. |
