DCD rom and SMS Conversation

A couple days ago I started messing with DCDs rom and successfully flashed everything. Unfortunately, despite many hours of trying everything, reading ppcgeeks, and lying to numerous Tier 3 CSRs, I was unable to get my data connection to work, forcing me to revert back to Stock rom. They did decide to send me a new Titon, though! Besides the speed of DCDs rom, I didn't really find anything I couldn't do without EXCEPT...the SMS conversations, rather than the old SMS interface. The WM 6.1 interface for text messaging was awesome.

Bringing me to my question...Because I have no luck with upgrading the rom, does anyone know how I can get the 6.1 txt message interface with the stock rom? ...or is there a way to get a similar one?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

only because i didn't see you mention it, did you install the verizon carrier cab for dcd's roms? that could be your problem.

Ahh...sorry to not mention it. I did install the DCD Verizon Carrier.cab. Additionally, I searched until I found a newer carrier cab and tried that one. I was also having problems after the flash, which I was unaware was a problem before reading, with authentication issues. Finally, after four or five calls to CS, they overrode the authentication for the account. That worked fine after that. During my trials and tribulations, I accidentally "sprintized" the phone due to a screaming baby! I fixed that problem, but CS told me that the phone, even after the stock rom was flashed, was polling to sprint towers. I finally forced it out of roaming and got the authentication fixed, but still could not connect to data connect. Obviously I had to lie to CS and tell them that the stock rom was on the phone, but they were totally unable to fix the problem. They said, "Sounds like something funny got into your phone"! ...and that was Tier 3! They determined that the only course of action was to send me a new phone, which should be coming tomorrow and will probably be in the same shape as this one within a couple days!

Also, if I get the new phone and decide to flash it back to DCDs rom, does anyone know how to get around the authentication issue without calling CS and having them give me the A-Key again. After the flash, I cannot use *228 or *22899 to force the key to the phone. The manual programming is not an issue, but the authentication problem does not allow me to make phone calls. CS is really tired of giving me the akey and I don't know how long it will stay overridden. I was unaware until this that the akey changes all the time.

there have been a few people who did not need a new a-key, i however did. you should only need one when flashing a new radio. I've flashed several of dcds roms without needing another.

I think I read somewhere one way to avoid this while you still have your old phone, do the updates on your new phone than activate it then it will be programed with a new a-key. It is why I keep an older wm phone around incase I know I am going to do something that might require a new a-key. Usually will activate that phone do the updates on the 6800 than re activate it. Don't have to deal with customer service that way just swap out ESN's on Verizon's website as needed.

Sounds like you need to tell them(Verizon) to reset your DMU keys, then remove and then add back your data package to your plan....... Questions like this have been answered over at XDA.... in the upgrade forum....

PS - The A-Key does NOT reset all the time..... I had to get 1 A-Key since going from stock to a GPS rom, and have flashed my phone literally 300 times in the last few months..... No A-Key issues.....

When you get the replacement phone DO NOT activate it right away. Go ahead and unlock and flash the ROM and radio then go thru activation. Worked like a charm for me. I didn't need to call for an a-key just the basic call in to activate a replacement device and the *228 for programming.

Hughes: I was having the same problem and the strangest thing fixed it. I connected my phone to the computer with the USB cable, then started internet explorer, my data connection started working, then disconnected the cable and the data connection dialed and worked. I have no idea why, but I did this twice and no longer have the problem. I too was on the phone with tier 2 and tier 3 for hours on end before figuring this out.
