Applied 3.56.651.0 update, and I'm already roaming

I just switched my botched phone for a brand new in box (Non-refurb) one. I took it home, and applied the update, and after it customizes everything, and finally loads... I'm roaming. Every now and then, it will go into an EVDO area, like on my way home this evening, but most of the time just roaming. I know it's the phone, as my old one worked fine, as does my girlfriends

Anyone know what to do? I've tried hard resetting, tried updating my PRL (60613), and installing the update again

Right now I'm stuck waiting until tomorrow when I can get to a Sprint store, or wait until I get signal, so I can *2 it up and get some "help"

Thanks in advance

Edit: Okay, I got a hold of Sprint, and their "technician" had me switch my "Roaming" setting (Under "Phone") to "Sprint Only". Now I'm getting a signal, but only after my phone has been on a few minutes

can someone explain why people want to roam or want the roam only option? i just don't get it. i realize that somewhere there is better service, but i thought that you still got charged for it. can anyone clarify?

I believe most plans include roaming at this point, so when you're in an area with a very low to non-existent Sprint signal, roaming only would save battery life since the phone wouldn't be trying to find Sprint towers constantly.

Also at my old apartment, I would drop calls like crazy unless I went into roaming only mode, since roaming is included I would just set my phone to roaming when I wanted to make a call or first call I dropped when someone called me.
