Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
So with nueROM 2.2 dropping sometime this month (week?), who thinks that No2chem needs his own subforum? His last thread just cruised by 3600 posts. Many of them would be eliminated if people didn't have to dig through hundreds of pages to find an answer to a question that was already asked and answered 20 times.

Re: No2Chem subforum?
While I do consider him the best that would be unfair to the other ppl that do the same thing he does.
|
Re: No2Chem subforum?
That's true... I've seen plenty of other forums that give established developers their own subforums. So other established devs should have their own too. I don't think it causes any performance issues with the server (it would probably reduce the number of posts and searches and improve performance!).

Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
Easiest way to keep his thread under control is to not post useless crap in it. Just my $0.02 since there is alot of off topic chatter in his ROM threads...

I'm for this, simply because you notice a pretty wide range of threads on the HTC Titan Upgrades forum referencing his ROMs and asking questions related to them, so clearly enough people talk about them that it might be worth it. At this stage I'd say no2chem and DCD are just popular enough to warrant their own, while the rest can share this forum until another true leader appears. |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
A sub forum would make it possible to do an RSS JUST FOR No2Chem! I LOVE that idea!!!!
|
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
We could then have a separate announcement and discussion thread for each build, making it a little easier to browse through. Not saying for each sub-build (a-k on 5069, for instance), but just each main number revision.

Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
I think this is a great idea. There are tons of custom ROM's based off of his base builds. I think.....enough to make this a worthy sub.
|
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
I think that making a separate forum is just going to make it harder for no2chem to keep up on issues and help people out. Its more frustrating for us to go through that single thread than it is for him... would you rather read 50 individual threads or 50 questions in a single thread?
|
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
i'm still a little unsure about the logistics of this. what would the parent-forum be? titan? what happens when a base gets ported to the vogue?
I am actually getting to like the wiki that xda has. nice to know that the info there is from an authoritative source. |

Seriously dude, on release days, I've seen no2chem's thread EASILY surpass 50 posts in a single 24 hour period. Just imagine how annoyed he would get sifting through 50+ threads... with other people replying here and there making them look new... I'd be livid in his shoes lol.

Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
if only we had moderators to merge, edit, and delete posts, and keep things in line

knowing no2chem he's gonna continue tweaking his threads for the better the same way he tweaks his roms. hopefully 2.2 will get a brand new thread or two, one for post, links, updates, and other communication from him ONLY, and another for bugs, support, etc. |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
I think anyone distributing roms should have their own subforum
|
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
2.2 will have its own thread for sure. I'm the one that originally suggested that no2chem fork his threads and as soon as 2.1 came out, he did.
I am a forum admin (as in, I own my own forum) and I can't even begin to tell you how much more convenient it is to have everything in one thread versus 25+ |

Isn't there a section already established for such things? |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
One way to cut down the useless posts by about 50% would to be quit responding to them. If someone doesn's search properly (or in a way to suit the almighty expert searchers), just ignore the post. No need to berate them with another useless post that says "reading is fundamental" or "Search is your friend". The same would stand for other posts that are off topic.

Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
Each major developer needs a thread with sub threads. Announcement, release version, bug report/fixes...
It's a nightmare trying to find anything here. The search function is very poor (cant search on 'SD card', says 3 characters or more. Half the returns are nonsense since it fully parses the request not searching the full string first) Being relatively new here I will tell you its all very overwhelming! I'm a techie type but when I first got my VX6800 I almost stopped even looking here because of the frustration, wasted time wading through off topic replies and Smart A#$ comments from some toward those of us just getting into this, YES WE DO SEARCH FIRST, and desperately trying to wade thought the mud and quick sand of this sight. Sorry for the rant to all of you who DO try to help and make a positive contribution. A definite YES to this!!! |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
There's no way you're going to stop stupid people from posting, whether it's in one thread or an entire sub-forum.
I really like the suggestion in the 2.1 thread that someone had: have no2chem make a "private" release thread that only he can edit, and a separate discussion thread where all the useless, flirty, BS discussion happens. Bottom line: something definitely needs to change because it sucks as it is now. |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
So here are my observations:
This is a great forum with great information and people. Right now, the "titan upgrades" forums has 32,497 posts with 8,981 posts in No2chem's 3 nuerom threads and the no2chem kitchen thread. So 28% of this forum's posts are in 4 threads. no2chem is a developer and not a moderator or frequent poster. We are thankful for his work and demand or expect nothing from him. Simple or off topic questions get asked over and over despite a fairly detailed 1st post in the nuerom threads. I would love to see how many posts say "take your battery out for 30 seconds!" So basically, we have a ton of info (useful & useless) crammed into one area that is difficult to sort. The wiki sounds like a great idea and could be a good solution, but someone besides no2chem should keep it current. The "private" thread idea is good too. Personally, I only check the 2.1 thread to see if there are any posts from no2chem since they are usually the only ones with any substance. Since I don't check it every hour like others, I usually have to sort through 5 - 10 pages. Things are not horrible now - just looking to make it more useful for noobs and vets alike. |

There are a lot of good bug reports, fixes, and feature requests posted, but they tend to get lost in the chatter. |
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
Could give developers rights to edit and delete posts in threads of there products. A sub forum may be a bit much.
|
Re: Subforum for no2chem & other major developers?
i think since there is 28% of all posts of the titan forum in no2chems threads ](*,) i think there should be a sub-forum :protest:. but as it should be, it is not us who get to choose who gets there own sub fourm, it be the powers at be .
i bid you good day sirs, and lady sirs:mrgreen: ~chevy |
