Applications: Kitchen or CAB install?

I just got my XV6800 yesterday and as of now I'm running no2chem 5067 with a slew of applications. I was wondering what the advantage is of including apps in the ROM file. Does doing it that way put everything into a reserved ROM space versus installs putting them into the Programs memory location? If that's the case I can see the advantage, but that means cooking up a new ROM everytime an app gets updated which might get old.

Really the only benefit you get is that it's already installed when you start up. That, and if you ever hard reset it will still be there. There isn't a reserved rom space or anything. On the downside the app will not be listed in 'remove programs'....

Yeah the main benefit is still having them during a hard reset. I also have the CABs for some of my non-kitchen programs (sMMS, etc.) on the Storage Card so when I have to do a hard reset I can do it anywhere and not lose a step. My contacts are synced via Exchange to mail2web so I don't have to hook it to a PC ever.

You can follow my tutorial in my sig line. The benefits...I use it to set my ringers, copy must have office files for work, and a few cab files I must have...and I don' t have to worry about a corrupt card if that ever happens. More likely I'll be showing my phone to someone and they find the "clear storage" link... My method I include the files into an oem (flash alot) and for example...I'll put my ringers in the rom as ringer.mpp then copy them to \my documents\ringer.mp3 so it only shows up once. It will be in the rom, and where ya copy it to with my tutorial.

And it's ppckitchen.org buildos friendly!

Wow! I just found this thread had replies. I guess since I slept a few times after posting before there were responses I forgot all about the thread. Anyway, it's nearly a year late but thanks for the answers, all.
