WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
4 Attachment(s)
UPDATE - 10/20/08:
1. I tested version 2.36 from the latest stock Titan ROM released. Version 2.36 will constantly redirect you to a web page if you do not pay for tethering!!!! Stay away from it. 2. Updated bad .dsm file, it had an invalid GUID in it that builddsm.exe didn't overwrite. 3. Added wmodem.htm help file from verison 2.36 4. Found new driver installer program to automate driver installation. (New Screenshot) Tutorial: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11146 WModem 2.25 - found on the net somewhere Drivers for XP and Vista 32Bit - I have been using this version of WModem and these drivers with my Titan since December to stream TV from home to my laptop at work. I have not used the Vista drivers yet, so if someone could try it out and post results... that would be great. I take no credit for this OEM other than the creation of the provxml file to ensure the registry settings persist when cooked into a ROM, especially with the kitchens as of late. http://www.mhcable.com/~bigl/PPC/POS...rInstaller.jpg EDIT(old): Created cab version per request, I have it built into my current ROM so I couldn't test it. Please post if it works. EDIT(old): While searching for more drivers I found this post on ppcgeeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11146 I remember now that this is where I found these files to begin with. There is a great write up as this is a tutorial thread. All credit goes to these guys, I just packaged the stuff. |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM - Works on Titan
Thanks for the share. I've looked at the zip and I see this is setup for a kitchen install. What would I have to do to install this on my active phone?
Thanks. |

Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan
This just made my day/week/month...
I've been trying to get wmodem working again since I started monkeying with wm6.1 builds on my Tilt. For whatever reason, I find my connection to be much more solid using wmodem/dialup than when using Internet Sharing... Thanks a bunch! -lunk- |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
This OEM has been updated and a new driver package added. Check it out above.
If anyone gets redirected to sign up for tethering or gets any message saying the need tethering with this please let me know. Recieving "Data Call Failure - Error Code 1010, Data Service is not available when the device is in tethered and bluetooth dial up networking mode." does not mean you have a problem. This message is by design and just indicates that your phone is pissed because a program running on it is trying to get to the internet and can't. |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
Has anyone tried this .cab with the wmodem.exe ver 2.25 on an Apache?
My older wmodem.exe is part of the ROM, I think installing from a .cab with the new version has issues due to the older ROM version. I was able to install, the tethered PC recognized the 6700 as a "CDMA USB Modem" in Device Manager. I set up a network connection to use the USB modem. But as soon as I dialed, the PC returned errors stating the PC was unable to establish a connection. Modem diagnostics showed the 6700 commnicating with the PC OK. I might try the older 6700 drivers on the PC. Anyone care to chime in?? |

At the risk of getting severely flamed / reprimanded...well first let me say this worked great on my mogul. I just ordered a vogue/Touch...is there a chance this would also work on that without modification?

Is this any better than just using internet sharing app?

I'm not sure it has a tangible difference on speed, but I have noticed slightly lower latency that way. maybe i'ts all in my head, I don't know. But the connection seems a lot more stable using the modem method. |

Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
What is the advantages to using this *cab instead of the default installed version 2.32? If I just change the "Use Preset GPRS Settings" to use wap.cingular instead of isp.cingular, disable the proxy for the Media Net connection, as well as changing both settings to Media Net under advanced network management, (connect to network, connect to private network), won't the effect be the same? Furthermore, what is the functional difference between using Wmodem.exe and IntShrUI.exe?

Finally for all: WModem.exe gives you: 1. A public IP address - this alone should be enough... 2. No NAT means no routing. Routing requires CPU cycles. That's why the phone gets hotter than a ***** with internet sharing apps. Its even worse with the power usage for wifi. 3. No routing means less latency. I mean come on, we complain about how slow these phones are constantly... you really want it to try to push your internet connection while its already choking on itself?!?!? The computer interfaces with the hardware and controls the hardware not the phone. With internet sharing apps your computer thinks its talking to another computer or router... it just happens to be a much crappier and less powerful one. |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
Thanks. One more question regarding Internet sharing. When it is enabled on my HTC 8925, is my battery also capable of being charged at the same time? The reason I ask is because when I had my MotoQ9h, it would not charge the phone when I was tethering.
Yes, I was aware that I was interfacing with the Internet connection on the telephone, and not actively using minutes. I have not, (nor do I want to), establish a CSD connection, I only have 450 any time minutes and 5000 N/W minutes. I asked what the difference between 2.25 and 2.32.00 because the ATT WM6.1 ROM has version 2.32.00 by default. |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
Sorry if this is stupid question but..
Just last night I went from having an xv6800 on Rom:2.09.605.8/Radio:1.30.60 for 6 months to DCD 3.3.4/Radio 3.42.50... Wow this things so much faster!! Now i pay my $45/month to verizon for broadband access connect (legal tethering)... And in the past was using "Modem Link" then VZ Access to connect....... now with DCD 3.3.4 I dont see modem link anymore.. used ICS for today... tomorrow I'd like to use Wmodem as I just read all the advantages to it... My question: whats the difference between Wmodem and whatever method would utilize verizons vzaccess manager program to dial the connection? is either any "better" for a faster connection? Thx in advance. Thx Talyn!! azhummer |
Re: WModem 2.25 OEM and Cab - Works on Titan - UPDATED
does anyone else find this confusing for vzw customers? the link referenced talks sprint stuff and i'm not sure how it applies.
i have the cab installed on the phone and the drivers/software on my laptop but have no idea how to config the phone or the laptop, everything is so confusing... how about a step by step....that applies to vzw! |
