Wireless Sync disconnecting data

I have wm6.1 with the 5060 release, and I've had the same problem with a half dozen different distributions. I have wireless sync on my phone, but after wireless sync finishes it's sync session, it hangs up the data connection. Then, it does not reinitiate the data connection next time it goes to sync, so the server it's trying to connect to does not resolve. I tried always on data in the registry, it didn't do it. If I manually open a data connection, it will work, then hang it up, and won't work again.

The strange part is, it worked for a few days, then suddenly stopped. I reflash, it works for a few days, then stops. As far as I can tell, nothing is changing, it just suddenly decides it's time to hang up the data connection.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

I have the same exact issue with the n2c, nexvision, and ppckitchen builds, but not with dcd. So, there must be a setting that effects the data on/off that can be modified, but I've got no idea what it is. I do find that if WS is not connecting, if I start PIE, then it will sync. Not exactly a smooth workaround. Comm manager data connect does not work manually either, which I'm certain has something to do with this as well.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

If i manually go into the connection settings, and click on the #777, and hit connect, it'll connect. However, it hten immediately disconnects. I have no idea why. Wireless sync seems to not be able to initiate a connection. PIE can, as well as several other apps. I think it's more of a problem with data auto-disconnecting. I think it's time to flash dcd's, it's to bad because i really like the kitchen, but i need my email.

i must be something with n2c's ROMs. i very seldom use wireless sync, but when i used 5060 for a little, i found some things like this that didnt work. havent had a problem on DCD's 3.0.4. have you tried the reg edit to always have your data connection running?

edit: try this reg edit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Verizon (or Sprint PCS Vision if you're on Sprint)

Change AlwaysOn dword to 1

Thanks but it must be something else. Back on dcd now, and that dword is set to 0 on his.

I had already tried that with no success. Back to dcd for me as well. Thanks though.

What exactly does wireless sync sync to and what info?
Any reason to not use a free exchange server like mail2web (syncs calendar, contacts, tasks, email)?

Just asking because I've never used it but I know it's an ancient app. You guys waited a couple of weeks after I switched to Sprint so I can't test now :P

WS syncs to a web-based portal/server that in turn, syncs to an applet on the desktop that coordinates to Outlook mail, calendar, notes, tasks, contacts. It is old and limited, but, in my case, it has utility because (to make a long story short) of the way email is set up in my company.

The mystery is, why does it work on the dcd roms but not with n2c or ppckitchen? It is the only reason why I can't use those. Whenever there's a new build I give it a shot, but no go. Would be great if this can be solved. Thanks, Tiermann!

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

when you go to manage your connections, instead of connecting try doing an edit.
for username i put in my cell phone number & password i put in vzw

mine were both blank and once i did that my stuff data worked alot better. and the data icon in the connection manager is enabled.

hopefully that helps.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

Did you just put in only your cell number, or "cellnumber@vzw3g.com"? I think I've tried this, but, I'll give it another shot next time I flash to one of these roms.

The data connect thing is hit or miss (therein lies the issue). There are times when it does connect, and if you should happen to look at comm manager then, you can change it. There's quite a bit of discussion going on in the nexvision threads about disconnecting bluetooth and wifi. IMHO, these issues are all somehow related.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

Wireless Sync connects directly to my exchange server at work, without outlook, on a server i have running in my desk. It then forwards the info to verizon which sends it to my phone. it's also a corporate server, there's 15 other people on it, so WS is the only thing i can use really.

i have the sam config/problem. When I first upgraded to the kitchen, the user and pass were blank and my vzw sync worked as it should. I changed the dns and entered myphonenumber@vzw3g.com with vzw as the pass. Vzw sync no longer worked. Neither did any program that initiated a connection with exception of PIE (worked just fine). Removed my dns, everthing was still broken in the same manner (nothing but PIE could initiate and sustain a connection). Entered only my phone number as the user with vzw as the pass, I am now able to initiate and sustain a connection with vzw wireless sync, skyfire, opera mini 4.1 beta, etc.

That would be great. I'll give it a shot with 5066 when it comes out.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

Just to update, no success with 5066 either, with any of the suggested solutions. Same exact issues. Data connect does not initiate and server name cannot be resolved. The new radio is great for bluetooth though.

Just tested on a 6800 and no problems.

If you've just installed it, it will set up properly and run for an hour or so, which is what others have verified. Leave it disconnected from the desktop for the hour, and then try to initiate a sync manually without re-connecting to the desktop. You will see the problem.

Weird, but thats the issue.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

I had the same problem. Wireless Sync works fine then suddenly will not connect if data is diconnected. I hard rest and everything was woring again. The I noticed that if I turned bluetooth on after sometime data would disconnect and wireless sync would not work again. I urned off bluetooth and wireless sync would dial out again. What this happens on the 5060 ROM, I don't know but see if turing bluetooth off helps.

I believe I've found a solution - not bluetooth related - want to test a little longer and will try to update this post tomorrow.

I would be interested to see what you came up with.

Re: Wireless Sync disconnecting data

There is a solution-- still don't know what causes it, but here's how to get around it---

Some of you may know that DCD has changed his ROM/kitchen to provide separate carrier cabs that must be run after the ROM or Kitchen to provide connectivity to your provider. The verizon one runs great, and now I've realized that these cabs can be run on top of the ppckitchen (and presumably n2c ROMs), even if you select the right carrier for in those Kitchens/Roms.

This past week, I ran the ppckitchen, and as usual, Wireless Sync failed after a couple of hours. Since the DCD vzw carrier cab was already on my storage card, I uninstalled WS, ran the DCD cab, reinstalled WS and viola, 3+ days and no problems. So for this, and any other vzw related data connect problems, I'd say this is a great solution. Over the weekend, I ran over the air with *228 1, and then *228 2 just to see. They ran fine, and there seems to be no problem with that either.

Hopefully someone will test this with no2chem's stuff in the next day or two. Otherwise, I'll probably do it next week. The DCD vzw carrier cab is located on the bottom of the OP for DCD's 3.1.2 ROM and Kitchen.
