I'm trying to figure out if I should download the new ROM from HTC or if I'm better off with the one I have???

Honestly it is worth it,,

because If your with sprint, and have a sprint mogul, its just as easy as plugging in your phone and doubleclicking a file, and grabbing a soda while you wait,,

granted you will have to back up your pics/music/contacts etc. and will have to reinstall all your apps..

but you gain a very stable gps, amongst other things,,, and loading the 6.1 rom on top of it makes it so sweet,,, threaded sms, runs clean,
all around i give it thumbs up...

Even if you dont use the gps, the increase in the internet speed is worth it.

this is what I am questioning. From the way that I understand this he has the official sprint updated rom, and the new windows 6.1 on top of it????? I just wondered about the 6.1. I have seen all of the other cooked Roms and was wondering if this is what he was referring to.

yes this is right. they base their roms off the sprint official rom and make it even better. they add WM 6.1 which has threaded sms. and PIE has zoom i believe

yes the official is 6.0 load the official radio/rom then you can get a 6.1 rom or use a kitchen to flash on top

i don't think so. but i believe people use the sprint one and port it over to verizon. you should search. start here

The newest official ROM is worth the update. You get the GPS as well as EVDO Rev.A, which gives you a faster internet speed. The GPS is well worth it, especially considering there are a ton of free apps that use it exceptionally well (I use Google maps because it's clean, free and super accurate).

More importantly, if you decide to customize your phone with any of the many custom ROM's on these threads you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE the newest official ROM. One of the things the new official ROM contains is an updated RADIO. This determines how the phone ccommunicates with... who cares. The point is that you need to have the updated radio to use any of these customized ROMs. I use no2chem's WM 6.1 and I love it. The personalization you get on this phone is so much better than people realize if you use the tools that the smarter people on these forums generously donate for us to use.

If you are with Sprint, I would download the latest ROM and then flash with one of the Custom ROMs or better yet, the Kitchen ROM.

All the instructions can be found in the "Titan Upgrades" sub-forum.

The custom or kitchen ROMS have the GPS/RevA upgrade and also is a bit more stable.... You also don't have to load any of the needless bloatware that Sprint loads on their ROM.

If you don't mind reading and learning about reflashing your ROM (once you get it, it's fairly easy process), you'll never want to go back.

There's no downside to upgrading, and plenty of upsides. At the very least, yes, definitely update to the latest official one. From there, we do recommend the unofficial 6.1 ROMs, but even if you stick to the official stuff you're better off with the current ROM.

Yes, but one thing to remember: Once you go to a GPS rom you should not try to revert back to a pre-GPS rom. Only revert to the stock Sprint GPS one.
