TyTN upgrade to WM6>>> NEWBIE!!!

Hi, I am a newbie on pocket pc matters so, please, please excuse the way I am going about this problem I have.

I have a TyTN (yes, I know they bought a new one out 2/3 weeks after I got it! Story of my life!), and I am trying to upgrade it from WM5 to WM6.
Like a lot of other people, it refuses to install despite downloading ok & sync ok via WMDC.
The screen on the TyTN goes black and nothing else happens until "Error 260" comes up on the screen.

I have searched many, many forums & found other folk have the problem but things always finish in "Mid-Air" on the forum. Do they solve it? How?

I am not used to the lingo either. What's "cookin'", and "kitchen"??? (told you I am a newbie, but learning!)

My phone has HERM 200. IPL-1.00
HERM 200. SPL-2.03

Do I have to do something about this before even considering installing (well, try to) WM6?

two or three "links" go to great extremes of downloading this and that, but can someone in PLAN,SIMPLE English direct me the right way? Please?

First thing you have to realize is that TyTN is a different device than Titan. The ROMs are not compatible. You need to check in a TyTN forum about how to proceed.

hey BGbopper,

you may want to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/ out, they have a more robust hermes/tytn forum with information that could help you.

Re: TyTN upgrade to WM6>>> NEWBIE!!!

As noted by the others here, but to clarify, the TyTN was a marketing name given to the Hermes (HTC's non-carrier-specific name for it). Unfortunately for whatever reasons, HTC then went ahead and called the PPC-6800 the Titan (again, their non-carrier-specific name), causing serious confusion. The two phones actually have nothing in common with each other.

PPCGeeks, for whatever reason, seems to have much better support for CDMA phones than GSM, so your phone isn't well-represented on this forum. XDA-Developers would be a much better resource for you.

Welcome to our world, though!
