Question for PPCkitchen makers....

I'm not sure how to frame the questions without ruffling anyones feathers but i have to ask.... Since I have only been on this scene for 4 months, and I am grasping just how much time and effort goes into doing all that you do to make ROM building easy for us all, please do not take this the wrong way....

After using the ppckitchen and others for a while now, I still do not fully understand the "need" to have people "login" to use it. Here are my questions:

a) Why is it necessary to "login" to use it? Answered

b) what information is collected during the login procedure? Answered....

c) Who has access to this information? Answered

d) Deleted....

My concerns are of MY privacy and that of everyone else who uses the ppckitchen. Depending on what info is collected that is.....
We're all here to help one another get the most out of our devices...

Just so everyone is clear I did donate to the PPCKitchen cause because it IS worth supporting.... but I'm very cautious with any personally identifiable info that may be collected..... I have been told, somewhat on the down low some info, but I think the community as a whole needs to know as well.....

Sincerly

Az

Check out the thread here.
you'll find input from Colonel, GGR and the rest of the kitchen crew.. you don't actually need to log in, i'm assuming it's just to get a read on the member usage of buildOS vs. the ppcgeeks site.

.....and what do you mean by this statement ->

Thanks for that thread nickles - I hadn't see that one.... As for the statement, it just stems from some info that I received in the chat channel that isn't widely known, as I hadn't known it before.... Like having "more" options if you have donated....

After reading that thread, it seems questions A and C have been answered.... but the big question is B.... What info is collected?

PS - Since I have donated, what do I have to do to have the donation nag screen to stop popping up?

Re: Question for PPCkitchen makers....

Nag is still there probably because the database has not been updated. I will get with gguru to make sure this is resolved.

One other point to why there is a login is because we do want the ability to restrict access to BuildOS when it is used in an unauthorized fashion. This would most definitely include when the A-holes sell roms and even kitchens on ebay. If there is a way to shut them down, we want to be able to try.

Now, as far as collected info, gguru is the best to answer this but I can tell you what I have seen. I know it logs your login times, name, and pw. It also will log the number of successful builds and kitchens you have used. Its just useful info for us to see who is a "power-user" and what they are building. This will also assist in development of future features.

Re: Question for PPCkitchen makers....

Yes, its quite sad. Usually for $10 too. I thought about starting a thread and having everyone here put up auctions for $.01. Basically the auction would be an add for ppcgeeks. And it would undercut the prices of the douchbags that are selling stuff that is available here for free.

There ya have it, there are asshats everywhere.....

PS - It seems that the updater keeps failing to update.... I'll have more specifics when I get back from doing my ACTUAL job, since I am at work, they do kind of expect me to do something for them... lol
