Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

I did an upgrade thru sprint 3.35 to dcd 3.0.1

i let the sprint customizations run, which hosed my data and wifi

i reloaded oem qwest rom and 1.40 radio (1.39 radio is what qwest used but could not locate it)

called qwest and got my data working again, but did not check the wifi (assumed it would work)

did the upgrade again thru 3.35 to dcd 3.01 "without" letting the sprint customizations run.

Problem; my data works fine, but my wifi does not

no possible combination of turning on the wifi switch or turning wifi on thru the comm manager seems to enable wifi.

i called qwest and they could not help. their only suggestion was a hard reset, otherwise they can only offer a warranty replacement if i can't get it working on my own.

Solution; ??? - turn to the smart people on the titan forums

anyone have any ideas

puff 04-14-2008 09:48 PM

did you try the hard reset?
maybe try cookin up a ROM from the no2chem kitchen?

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

I too upgraded to dcd's rom and followed the directions exactly. I upgrade to sprint's rom and then dcd's. Now, I get no ring at all and when I set it to vibrate, it starts vibrating on a voicemail only and won't stop until I do a soft reset or go into phone settings....does anyone know what's going on before I go back to the Qwest rom? I appreciate any and all help.. Thanks....by the way, I tried to thanks someone else and couldn't.....am I missing something there as well?

there's an article on XDA about how to chnge the ESN, but not sure if that will help you. the HEX and DEC value should be one and the same ESN, just a diff format.

dugg up the link...
http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/sh...4&postcount=82

again im not convinced that it's the ESN file, thinkin maybe it's how its bein read?

might try flash bak to your carrier rom, check ESN, and see if tha makes any difference. perhaps you let Sprint customizations run by accident and somehow that's causing your issue, perhaps not... just a suggestion

hd2 04-27-2008 11:41 AM

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

Thank you for your reply. I copied all the info from the original ROM before I flashed it. I also go my unlock code and copied that info down as well. It could be the way I'm flashing as I just flashed it again and the ESN is the same as last and still don't get a ring. Here's how I flash.

I copy the new Sprint ROM. It boots itself to the 'tap screen to get started'. I leave it alone and tell ActiveSync not to sync up at this time. I did a hard boot and then reboot again once it hit the green Windows screen.

I flashed dcd's ROM for Qwest. When it was finished I did a hard boot and started testing. It still fails....is there something I am doing wrong in this process?

Thanks again.

Rick

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

HD2 - What Radio are you running? And what ROM version? The reason I ask is because your issue sounds alot like what would happen if you were running a 3.16 based ROM on the new 3.35 radio..... I had this happen until I went to 3.35 based ROM.....

INFO - 3.16 ROMS go with the 3.27 radio
3.35 ROMS go with the 3.35 or 3.37 radio

man i told myself that i would not get involved , but u guys really miss the mark when it comes to the carrier settings/
im not going to go into great lengths to get u going, it probably would just confuse u more. But during this whole thread i never heard u attempt to ( i forgot what its called IOTA i think) but its were u dial *228 to reprogram your phone to the specifications of your carrier. im going to go out on a limb and say that the upgrade shouldnt have changed your esn, and to the best of my knowledge, upgrading to a rom wouldnt do that. it does sound like what "azclown" had said about the radio version. i myself had to find the right way to lock and unlock my phone to be able to upgrade to the different ROMs/

make sure u upgrade and downgrade the (Hard_MFG_SPL) as needed for the roms and radios/

example; for me to try radio 3.37, i had to downgrade my "Hard_MFG_SPL 2.40 " to the 1.20"

then i was able load the new radio, of coarse i wanted to load a fresh copy of DCD 3.04, and forgot to put back the Hard_MFG_SPL 2.40. needless to say i kept getting error messages until i realized i forgot to reload the necessary Hard_MFG_SPL 2.40 version to be able to load the custom rom/ needless to say it is a pain in the butt, but everything worked out/

PS: i also thanked AZclown 4 u, he deserves it.

================================================== ============

i cant believe some of the trouble u guys get into with this rom upgrading/ I have cricket as my carrier ( which they dont carry this phone, and insurance is out of the question, and u better believe that their tech agents r clueless, BUT i have managed to get everything working just fine / and u can 2

First of all, you all deserve kudo's for helping out. I so much appreciate your help. I apologize for being a NOOB and not knowing how these things work. Just so you know I have spent many, many hours on this website checking things out on the Mogul months before I bought as well as after I got it. I think azclown hit it on the head. You see, I was following someone's very well written upgrade. When it said to do a hard boot I held both soft keys down while I hit the reset. Here's where the problem is. After doing more research someone wrote that you must hold those keys down until you get a prompt from the device and answer the questions. I know, I know, such a dumb thing huh? Well, as a NOOB I follow instructions. I wasn't prepared to make assumptions. So, I have re-flashed the Sprint ROM and the phone rings. Not sure what else or if everything works. I have to go to work and will check it out tonight when I get home. Thank you everyone. Sorry for being a PIB.

Well, looks like that wasn't it. To answer your questions:

azclown: I have a radio of 3.35.04 and the dcd 2.3.2 ROM for Qwest. I used the new sprint rom to start with.

bunvilla: I tried your *228 and it says that is not a valid feature or something along those lines. I used the Olipro 2.40 to flash both ROMs. I don't get any error messages. Thanks for giving azclown credit. I agree, he does deserve it.

I should probably look this up before i reply to this thread, but i'm not gonna.

i don't think the 3.35 series radio is compatible with the 2 series dcd rom.

you might want to try the 3 series dcd rom- 3.0.1

3.35 and 3.0.1 are compatible for sure

the roms are for the phone / and the only thing that is different is the carriers customization pkg / and all it does is automatically setup the registry with the server info for the specific carrier/ meaning that u can (if had to ) manually input all the configurations yourself/ forget your carrier and concentrate on loading right radio with rom version and hardSPL

Thanks for that......so, after many more hours of research and days of my phone not working correctly, I am gathering that I have to flash my phone back to the original Qwest ROM and Radio, then flash to the new Sprint and then flash to dcd's 3.0.1? I do have the ROM's but unable to find the radio if this is the case. I read somewhere (xda?) that if I just flash directly to dcd's 3.0.1 ROM from where I'm at now, I could brick the phone. Is my understanding correct so far?

Thanks for all of your help.

if you have the olipro 2.40 bootloader and 3.XX radio then you should be able to flash ANY compatible ROM, not sure how you'd brick from this flash as you have the olipro bootloader that you can always boot into and reflash from. when you flash 99% of the "roms" on this site (and xda) are just the OS (not the radio/bootloader) unless specified

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

Yes. simply flash the rom package DCD 3.0.1

the biggest problem with the 3.35 radio was getting it properly installed. if that is truly what you have, then the hard part is over. from here you can flash straight to ANY COMPATIBLE rom

there are instances of certain radio/rom incompatibilities bricking these phones (i believe DCD himself has one ) but you appear to be beyond that

now just determine which method to use...SD card method or activesync method.
And Let DCD's customizations run after you load the new rom

P.S. if you ever use the SD method and it wont load the file, invalid, cant find it etc... try pulling the sd card a few times and/or resetting/pulling the battery for 10seconds or so.

every now and then these phones will simply not properly read or launch the renamed .nbh file even though there is nothing actually wrong with it.

Well, it looks like everything is Sprint and so I am unable to use the data to get email. I tried to use the unlock code to change the NAM settings but it doesn't work now. I also notice my PRL, HA addresses and some other settings have changed. I have started to do some research and apparently because I was having problems and someone said to let the sprint customizations run, that is why I have sprint all over the phone. I have also read that I need to reflash the original Qwest Rom and Radio (which I cannot find so far) and then once again flash to sprint's latest and then to dcd's. You guys have gotten me here so far so I trust your input. Is this correct and if so, do you know where I can find the Qwest Radio? Thank you.

Rick

P.S. I tried 'Get SPC' and it didn't work for me either.

you need to change the EPST settings back to what they were set for quest, or yeah flash a quest ROM and let customizations run to correct the ePST. although i must note that downgrading from GPS ROM (not sure if that's what you flashed or not) to non-GPS is highly not recommended and could possibly brick your phone.

Yes, I flashed dcd's 3.0.1 and things work much better. Don't I need the unlock code to work to change the EPST settings? I would much rather re-configure the phone than start with all the flashings again if I can, especially as I have not been able to find a Radio yet.

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

Get SPC does NOT appear to give Qwest subscribers the proper MSL unlock code.

i had to call qwest to get mine. i simply explained that the phone froze, i had to do a hard reset and now my data does not work

While retaining Olipro 2.40 as my bootloader, I was able to successfully downgrade to the original Qwest 2.13 rom and the compatible radio 1.40 (1.39 is our original radio, but no one seems to have it) before i called qwest.

It turns out that since all i needed was to get my proper MSL from qwest and edit my mdn and msid, i am not convinced that a downgrade is needed.

if i had to do it over again, i would call qwest 1st and see if editing those 2 settings fixes the problem BEFORE i reloaded the original 2.13 rom

the only caveat to all this, is that i also let the sprint customizations run and i have never been able to get my wifi working since. this could be related or it could just be a coincidence. ( i have dropped my phone many times.)

hd2 05-02-2008 11:00 PM

Re: Qwest rom upgrade to dcd 3.0.1- data works- wifi does not

Now how strange is this....after inputting my unlock code 8 or 10 times it finally worked. I was able to change the name to Qwest, change the IP addresses for HA and AA back to the original as well as input the secret codes. I changed the PRL but it did not save it. I cannot get email as it says it cannot connect with the #777 dial string. So, it looks like I'm still in the same boat. I called an acquaintance at Qwest and verified my unlock code is the one I have been using. My mdn and msid are correct. When I go into view (##778#) everything seems to be correct except my PRL says 60610 and the PRL capacity default is different. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I came home tonight and kept putting in my MSL and it finally said there were too many tries, it had a bar like it was loading something and I reset the mogul before it was complete. Not sure what that was all about either.

u change the prl by first getting the correct 1 / u'll find here :

http://www.corolada.com/prl/

then u load it into the "My Documents" on your phone / if u have a SD card, u should also copy it there, if the SD card has a folder called "My Documents" copy it in there also/

once that is done go and dial ##775 or ##775# which ever works, and then select edit , then browse and locate prl/

because its alot of info for me to write, i suggest u look up ALL my post regarding qwest, i show u how to EASILY get your SPC code , because GetSpc doesnt work on qwest 6800's.

Plus i think im the only person who copied the original qwest 2.13 rom ,(which u should find a link to in 1 of my posts) i have the 1.47 radio which can be used instead of the 1.39 which isnt as good as the 1.47 anyways
A friend of mine from work bought a mogul yesterday brand new from qwest/ i took it home and during my lunch i upgraded it to radio 3.37 and DCD 3.04 rom ( of coarse i had to load both spl 1.20 and 2.40 at 1 piont / then load a sprint rom upgrade then to desired DCD 3.04)
i used DCD 's kitchen which allowed me to load the qwest customization package, so good luck ive said all im going to say

HOW TO GET YOUR SPC or MLS CODE from a QWEST/SPRINT 6800 MOGUL easily
Found the post at ppcgeeks which worked excellent for me in getting my spc or mls code

Someone want to verify a different way to get MSL?
I was playing about with my Sprint Mogul and found a couple of ways to get your MSL... They basically both get it the same way, just take different routes to get there.

Two different ways to get MSL:

Method A:

* Change the following registry entries in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ATDbgLog
Enable: 1
LogMode: 1
* Wait a reasonable amount of time and soft-reset (I have noticed that it seems to take longer for this value to take affect, so if you reboot and the registry values are not changed, then you need to do it again and wait longer)
* Check to see that the file \Temp\ATDbg0.txt has been created.
* Return the values back to what they were (most likely 0) waiting the same amount of time as above.
* Look in the ATDbg0.txt file and you should see a log of commands sent to the CDMA radio and there should be something like this somewhere in the file:

Code:

11:9:3 Tx:AT+HTC_RMSL=0\r
11:9:3 Rx:+HTC_RMSL: 354201\r\n0\r
11:9:3 Tx:AT+HTC_ROTKSL=0\r
11:9:3 Rx:+HTC_ROTKSL: 216112\r\n0\r

* The numbers next to the Rx: +HTC_RMSL line should be your MSL... I do not know what the ROTKSL is for, but included it in the snippet incase someone knows.

Method B:

* Start your favorite pocket-pc terminal program (like pocketPutty - http://www.pocketputty.net/)
* Connect to com9 (Putty used default speed of 9600)
* type in AT+HTC_RMSL=0 and hit enter, your MSL will be displayed.
* Soft reset to restore phone functionality

Let me know if it works for you...

Thanks,

Geoff

THE FIRST OPTION WORKED EXCELLENT and i didnt have to install anything or take a chance of messing my phone up.
this rocks thought i would share it/ I CANT TAKE CREDIT FOR IT got it from ppcgeeks

Bunvilla, I did everything you said and now everything on my phone that I have tried i.e. phone/custom ringtones/email works like a charm....It still says Sprint PCS on the Today screen (HTC home customizer) and it won't save my email account settings but it works and that is what counts.

I found your post about the Qwest Rom a few days ago and copied it. I found another one of your posts with a Qwest Radio in it and copied that just in case. Thanks to you I didn't have to start over again.

I'm surprised that when I called Qwest, they said that my MSL code does not change and even verified it in their computer that it was still the same as the first time they gave it to me. After following your instructions I find the code did change. I copied your instructions onto a MSWord file for future reference.

I can't thank you enough. Thank you to those others who jumped in to help also. I wish I could give you all kudos.

Rick
