ROM preference?...Why?

I wasn't satisfied with my search results regarding this....

With all of the ROM options nowadays, I find myself unable to decide what ROM that I want to run, or if I want to make my own.

I've dabbled in kitchens (no2's 5060, OEM, DCD) and most of the other prepacked 6.1 customs (Vetvito, no2, DCD, NexVision, etc.) I'm relatively new to the kitchen, and I find that I frequently have unusable programs/apps after the build...I guess that I'm not selecting all necessary components.

Having said that, I'm gonna continue to experiment. I'm hoping that all reading this would just drop their suggestions and opinions.

I like the DCD kitchen. I love his customizations, the Touch dialer, touch comm manager. I've also foudn DCD's roms to be great for ram on boot. No2Chem's stuff is great, but I hate the ppckitchen. I never ended up with a rom that was just the way I wanted it, I even ended up with some broken links in the settings page, but DCD's kitchen has never let me down, I'm just waiting for a new kitchen with the latest 6.1 build.

I would say that DCDs work is my preference, however, I experience what is apparently, some common issues..

Wifi randomly turning on
battery drain
Voice problems (call's connected, but no audio)---I have only this seen this issue w/DCDs even though I'm obviously using the same radio

I actually have the same audio problem with 5055 of NoChem's......connects, but no audio anywhere. Probably upgrading to 5060 here in the next couple of mins though

broken links? please elaborate.
5060 is 6.1. Do you mean DCD w/ 6.1?

What programs/apps were unusable? Generally, .Net 3.5 CF is the only optional component people tend to leave out - but shouldn't.

I am using No2Chems 5048 3.16 WM6.1 Build. I havent seen any significant positives to upgrading to 3.35. I like his ROMs because they are, IMO, the most basic and more stable of the custom ROMs that are out there. I use the basekits and DogGuys Kitchen since i still like 3.16. I like basic because id rather manually install the programs and get it set up the way i like it and the use SPB Backup to make a backup file.

3.35 enables GPS. Even if you don't use it, nice to know it's there. Also, 5060 puts 5048/5049 to shame.

I'm using vetvito's wm6.1 lean rom with radio 3.35.
Quick and clean with no caffeine.
It is plain- but that's what I like.

I am also using vetvito's clean 6.1 rom with the 3.35 radio. Since it is clean, I can install only what I want on it and then backup, so after consequent flashes later I can be back up and running in no time.

Runs solid too, with 22-24MB memory free when first installed and booted.

Re: ROM preference?...Why?

IMO it all depends on what works for you.
I started off with DCD 3.0.1 . loved it except for some odd things (couldnt get MMS to work properly (VZW)).. but everything else was perfect.
flashed over to No2Chem 5054.. MMS worked, but couldn't beam..
went back and forth between the 2 for a couple of days.. you basically try them out and see what you like/don't like.... then chose the lesser of 2 evils..

personally, now that i am able to finally BT Receieve BEAMS on my no2Chem rom, it's the perfect setup. and i'm not touching a THING...

it all boils down to personal preference. just try some out, and fly from there.

3.16 was the leaked ROM which also enables GPS and some say Rev A, however AFTER upgrading my radio from the 3.27 to 3.35 the time GPS took to lock on decreased, also able to acquire GPS indoors vs w/ 3.16 i HAD to go outside to get a lock.

In regards to my current ROM, using a custom made w/ no2chem's 5060 (prior to the bT beam fix) so i will prolly reflash again soon... then again, if i wait a week, no2 might put something even better out... lol... really though it's all about experimenting and finding out what works for you!!!

I am running a rom I cooked from DCD's latest kitchen. I checked almost no options before building, going for a super clean rom. I have 25+ MB ram on boot with no bugs that I can think of right now.

Anyway, I do not seem to have any of those problems. But let me elaborate. I keep the wifi switch in the "On" position but keep it turned off in the comm manager. I keep a constant data connection with IM+ and email and get about 24 hours of battery life with the phone asleep with no use. No voice problems at all.

Does IM+ disconnect you when recieve a call? It does it to me every single time. My data connection goes dormant (suspended) then back to active when the call is over, but IM+ forces me to reconnect. If you know a way around this, that would be great....

Had been usig DCDs ROM but went and tried the PPCkitchen and seems to run much faster and havent had to do any soft-resets in days. With DCDs rom would have to every once and a while. Then again like most people here, gimme a few days and ill have a different opinion and a different ROM on my phone!

Yes, this is the way things are supposed to work. Future CDMA phones should support using data and voice simultaneously. To cut down on annoying your contacts, use wifi when at home.
