User Customization: For Dummies

Has anyone written up a Dummy's Guide to user customization yet?
I believe that's what you guys are using for all of this reflashing to auto-reload all of your applications, right?

I run quite a few different apps... and it sucks reloading everything each time I flash.

Dummy Guide please?

Re: User Customization: For Dummies

It's all based off of HTC's autorun carrier customization system. Modifying the config.txt in the extROM use to give a similar result, but it's nice to have this built into most new ROMs too. Pretty simple really, you just create a text file called SDConfig.txt and put it in the root directory of your storage card. The file contains the location of any cabs you want installed, files you want copied, etc. Sleuth's thread at XDA explains it all very well:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337

Read that and post back if you have any specific questions.

Edit: Also be sure to check the wiki link from that thread for available commands:

is the 5058 NuChem ROM User Customization capable? I don't see it listed on the thread by Sleuth

***Edit - found that NuChem's ROMs are "UC Compliant"

Re: User Customization: For Dummies

Does anyone have a good way to set up the start menu? The only method I've had work was to have the provisioning file Move the base lnks out of \Windows\Start Menu and move the items I wanted in the start menu in. It worked once but now it no longer works. I'm pretty sure it's because the shortcuts are Read Only now so they copy over but aren't moved out.

The easiest way to do this is to use OEMizer and Tautoinstall in conjunction w/ the kitchen. Mostly a point and click affair.
