Speaker popping after ROM Upgrade
 

Has anyone noticed the speaker on your Mogul popping and cracking when the phone is on mute or vibrate and a text is received?

yeah mine does that too i think its normal. is been doing it since i have had the phone

Mine did that too... I took it in and had it replaced... Haven't had a problem since.

Are you talking about the ear piece speaker or the speakerphone speaker? My 3 week old Mogal has a crackeling problem with the ear piece speaker. I'm thinking it is a hardware issue rather than software since it's been doing it since I got it.

It is the speakerphone speaker. It just started doing it after I installed the new official ROM. It seems to also do it when I slide the keyboard open.

I did too. I turned off the sliding sound problem fixed sorta by avoidance.

I never had the issue with 2.17 ROM, then I did with noChem and still do after official 3.35. I never had it with text or anything else though that I noticed.

My phone does the popping and a friend of mine has an at&t tilt and it pops too.

It has something to do with the speakers on these phones. I think they're just cheaply made and they're getting feedback from commands in the phone when they're not supposed to be.

This has happened to me on both custom ROMs and on the latest Sprint Official ROM. I am not sure if it is application specific or a faulty piece of hardware. This phone is about 5-6 months old and I'm not sure if it would be free to swap since I don't have insurance or anything.

I have only notice this when i upgraded to the "NEW unofficial ROM" aka the leak 6.1

also this is my second mogul. From a New batch as of May 01, 2008

Mine started doing that after I installed the leaked 6.1 ROM. It does it randomly on boot up, when the little windows theme is suppose to play during the green screen. Sometimes the music plays, and sometimes it just pops the sqeaker. I also missed alot of email notifications yesterday, because it just started popping. After I went into sounds and notifications, and reselected the alarm I use, it was fixed. I think it has more to do with the ROM, than the hardware. No problems with the stock Sprint ROM.:disgust:

I was using No2chem's 5067 and it caused this. Reflashed with exact same stuff and it went away for now

It's a random thing that happens. I have it with any ROM I use. It's just a really bad quality speaker.

I have the same issue, but only during bootup. Think it started after flashing the last official release, 3.35? I never have speaker pop any other time than the start-up sound at bootup. So I'm leaning heavily towards the 'software' side of the issue rather than a hardware defect.

I just upgraded my Vogue to the 6.1 Sprint "official" ROM and now noticing the pops and crackles from the speakerphone speaker. Even with all sounds muted it makes that noise seemingly randomly when you're scrolling with your finger, opening/closing application, etc. It pops almost every time I hit the red "end" button. What it's doing is unmuting the speaker to a rather high volume and then muting it again. If you put your ear to the speaker and then hit the "end" button you'll first hear a pop (the speaker turning on) then a brief "hiss" (amplified noise due to high volume level), and then silence again. I think it has to do with the sound driver and/or sound settings in the new ROM. Maybe we can use the old sound driver and/or settings (which apparently works fine) in the new ROM? Any ideas anyone?

I don't think its a ROM issue. Mine has been doing it lately and I am running the latest ROM released by sprint. It only does it when my phone is on vibrate or mute. I also have the "bright white spot" on the lower left of my screen. I'm gonna go by my local sprint store tomorrow and complain and see if I can get a new one.

I just noticed this thread. My Mogul also started popping and clicking sounds after the WM6.1 rom upgrade. I first noticed it when it was muted and I slid it open or closed. After I turned off the sliding sounds, it fixed that, but I get it when other events trigger a sound when muted, it happens. It I turn the speaker on, adjust the volume, then re-mute it, it stops for a bit. I'd guess it's a software problem.

I haven't found much talk about this, does anyone have a solution or more info?
