Please note what carrier your are writing your guides for....

When making statements such as:
Quote:

I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR: YOU MUST LET THE EXTENDED ROM CUSOMIZATION RUN AFTER THE FLASH. THEN YOU CAN DO A HARD RESET.
Please be sure to state that this should only be done for Sprint.

Now, I can't speak for every carrier, but when these customizations run, they do things like lock down the PST in a way that jacks up other carriers. I'm pretty sure it sets all the settings in the PST over to Sprint as well.

So, as you write your guides, please make a note of the carrier you are writing the guide for. OR, be sure to make notes next to the step regarding how other carriers should handle that step.

Thank you.
**steps off of soap box**

UM, Yeah, I was just comming here to post a thread about this exact issue.

If You have Verizon DO NOT LET SPRINTS EXTENDED ROM CUSTOMIZER RUN - IT MAKES IT SO YOUR ##PST# unlock code NOT be 000000.

I know there is a way to get around this, gotta search...

Did you find a solution? I actually reflashed to the Verizon Stock ROM, then updated to the Sprint ROM w/o letting the customizations run, then finally cooked and applied a ROM from DCDs kitchen.

This is a SPRINT ROM, if you are daring enough to put this on a Verizon phone you should be aware of this.

May I suggest one of you daring souls to make a new thread, title it INSTALLING NEW SPRINT ROM ON VX6800 STEP-BY-STEP or something similar, and posting a new set of instructions there. I''m sure there are other things that are different as well...

While you have a point, a lot of people who are not as technically inclined are coming in here and looking at these guides and making the assumption that they will work for their phones. Several of the guides are written in a generic but absolute manner that would lead those who don't know better to take steps that would not work for their phones.

It would be nice if one of us wrote a guide and I plan on doing so, but right now it's tough between a full time job, 2 classes, and teaching. I'll try tomorrow if I can.

Every sticky says "official Sprint ROM" to be fair. I'm sure everyone who downloads this ROM is aware of this, as the links are all in the stickies with that title.

And I didn't mean disrespect, just stating this fact to explain why I didn't think it was necessary. Before I read this thread I wasn't even aware this was ATTEMPTED on a vx6800.

Well, despite the "Official Sprint ROM", people are still taking steps that jack up their non-Sprint phones. To me it just seems the best way to prevent some of the "Help I bricked my phone" threads is to start to write the guides in a manner that says

If you have a Sprint phone do A)
If you have a non-Sprint phone do B)

Or at least put some sort of note at the top of the guide stating that the guide is written and tested on a Sprint phone, all others beware or look elsewhere.....or something along those lines.

I'm just trying to prevent the tons of "Help me!" threads

Lots of us have successfully done it, but with some modified steps to do it right. Lots of Telus and Bell customers as well.

I'll try to get a guide up tomorrow.
