Conserve RAM, Deleting Startup Services??

Hey guys, i have no2chems 6.1 rom

do any of you guys have a description of what each service does?

Which ones are safe to disable/delete

thanks

I am not running this ROM specificially, but on every ROM that I have flashed, I always delete:
HTC_CM_Guardian
sddaemon

One of them has to do with Voice command, which I don't use, and I can't remember what the other does.

I'm sure that doesn't fill you with confidence about deleting each, but copy them to another folder beforehand, just in case, and give it a shot.

Again, I have done this on every ROM I've used and I gain another 2MB on startup and have had no performance issues.

HTC CM GUARDIAN prevents any changes to the advanced network settings for the PowerVision connection. If you dont mess with your connection/know what you're doing, delete it. If you're not sure, keep it.

hey guys i ran into this thread by freeza at pdaphone home

this is what he said

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>

Note that when I say disable, I mean backup(export) then delete.

I've disabled the following services from HKLM/Services....

Windows Live=self explanatory
sqmupload=customer experience
SNApi
OBEX(most of you who have bluetooth dongles probably won't want to disable this)
DTPT(google searching indicates that this is responsible for some sort of DHCP activity, however, i'm able to connect to vision services just fine without it)
CERTENROLL
BTHIDSVC(my bluetooth headset works fine with this missing, i'm not sure if any other bluetooth operations are affected, as i don't have a bluetooth dongle for my compuer)

LASSD and NOTIFY are OK to disable if you don't, I repeat, DON'T use the "Lock" feature, which is found in Start>Settings>Personal. If you use this, deleting any of these keys will put you in an infinite restart cycle. However, if you don't use the "Lock" feature, and want to in the future, just import those two keys back into the registry and soft reset.

BTAGSVC = bluetooth audiogateway service. Don't mess with this if you use bluetooth headsets.

BTHASPLUGIN = can't disable this.

CREDSVC = credential manager. Don't mess with this if you use vision services or Phone As Modem.

PhoneExt = this has to do with the dialer and the codes that you use to access the EPST. Don't disable this if you use any of the phone features besides just the dialpad. Also contains errorcodes for the Sprint network.

Power = I just wouldn't mess with this regardless. It can't be disabled anyway.

SMSRetry = this is responsible for automatically trying to send messages if you're out of service or roaming.

Trusted = I just wouldn't mess with this regardless.

from HKLM\Init i've disabled...

PlaySilence.exe
uptimesqm.exe(customer experience)
TimeWizard.exe(googling has shown this to keep the time right after a cold boot[taking the battery out], however, my time syncs with sprint's servers)

Pretty sure anything else in there would probably put you in an endless reboot cycle if you disabled it.

Although what I may play around with is seeing if I can disable ciphase2.exe and ciphaseui.exe. When I do i'll post results.

I saw this a few months back...I was pumped initially, but I had nothing but problems when I attemped these modifications. It's possible I'm idiot, but I tried twice. Had to hard reset twice.

But as always, proceed w/caution.

well i have tried these mods with a 6.1 rom from No2chem

htc home
sipchange for NULLKB
iLock for slide2unlock

i did these following tweaks
1. Windows Live=self explanatory
2. sqmupload=customer experience
3. OBEX(most of you who have bluetooth dongles probably won't want to disable this)
4. DTPT(google searching indicates that this is responsible for some sort of DHCP activity,
5. BTHIDSVC(my bluetooth headset works fine with this missing, i'm not sure if any other bluetooth operations are affected, as i don't have a bluetooth dongle for my compuer)
6. SMSRetry = this is responsible for automatically trying to send messages if you're out of service or roaming.

from HKLM\Init i've disabled...

1. PlaySilence.exe
2. uptimesqm.exe(customer experience)
3. TimeWizard.exe(googling has shown this to keep the time right after a cold boot[taking the battery out], however, my time syncs with sprint's servers)
