AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
First I would like to say thanks to Shadowmite and Baffles for their idea of GPS Launcher. Shadowmite's GPSLauncher and Baffles' GPS Launcher are great gps launcher but aren't suite my need so I decided to write one myself.
Shadowmite's GPSLauncher is nice and compact but more work, I need to launch the application and click the 'Tomtom' to launch it (2 step). I like Baffles' idea when click on it and launch immediately but unfortunately it use .NET use lot of RAM. I have issue on both application for tomtom is that when turn off the screen or someone call in, gps connection get lost and re-click it to open up the gps port for tomtom. This AstroGPSLauncher open the gps port and launch 'gps application'. AstroGPSLauncher will close itself upon 'gps application' exit in which won't have issue when someone call in or turn off the phone. iGuidance has issue with refresh the screen. To get iGuidance work correctly you need to get GPS Gate to redirect com 4 to com 2 and use this launcher to launch iGuidanceQVGA.exe, on iGuidance set to com 2. This way won't have map refresh issue. --How to use this AstroGPSLauncher --- --Copy AstroGPSLauncher to your Main Memory \AstroGPSLauncher\AstroGPSLauncher.exe (YOu can copy AstroGPSLauncher to SD Card but you need to change the path inside the shortcut if you use) This launcher launch gps application through parameter(if you know what I meant) . I have provide two shortcuts 'Tomtom Launcher' which and 'iGuidance Launcher' for your need(Make sure you install tomtom app or iGuidance to main memory which you should). If you install on different location, you need to use notepad and edit the shortcut to correct gps application and icon or you can use 'SK Shortcut Manager' to create a short that point to your launcher. SK Shortcut Manager - New Short cut Instruction Name = you provide Command = select AstroGPSLauncher Parameters = select your gps application and set icon to your gps application. BTW, this application only take 2k of RAM (very small) and 10k for disk memory. It much less memory usage than Shadowmite's GPSLauncher and Baffles' GPS Launcher If you like this application, please give some comments. ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....PSLauncher.zip |
Flashing GPS ROM...will take a look.
If you want, I can make a cab for this and post it... |
not sure if cab file is necessary since each person use this for different purpose, some has tomtom, other has iGuidance, maybe I should create a configuration app that let user can config it to point to their own 'gps application'. Not sure I should do it or not since don't see lot of demand.
After I have the configuration app, I need your help to create the cab file for it. Thanks for the offer! |
Let me know and I'll help you out...
+1 for the config app. That'll really help people out! :) |
Thanks Astro, this is EXACTLY what I was thinking I needed to write while I was on my way to Target today. So much more elegant than starting google maps, clicking use gps, switching to Tom tom, etc......
Thanks Again, works great |
Getting error: The file "AstroGPSLauncher" cannot be opened. ... not signed ...

sound like you click on the shortcut and ur 'gps application' is different from the given, you can fix it by modify the 'Tomtom Launcher' or 'iGuidance Launcher' using notepad to correct it to correct path.
|
+1 on a configurator.
Would it be possible to integrate it into one program along with your launcher? |
Its actually because i extracted to My Docs folder.
You HAVE to put in on root directory. Thanks Astro! |

I'm a little confused... I have Tomtom, and have placed both the tomtom shortcut into the root dir as well as the AstroGPSLauncher.exe file. I still get the file cannot be opened error. How are you editing the shortcut and changing the paremeters? I think I have overlooked somehthing really easy!
|
this will probably sound dumb....but once i have installed iguidance and ur gps luncher, then i just need to go to ur launchers folder to use that icon to launch my gps program....is that all i need to do or am i supposed to click on the launcherstheicon???....thanks for the help

Just wondering if we can make this one sticky? It is the best app I have found so far to fire up the GPS and launch desired navigation program. Also here are some simple step by step instruction on how to install and set up AstroGPSLauncher
Thank you AstronusX for the great app =D> |
Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
Sorry I am still a bit lost. I now have the AstroGPSLauncher.exe and the short cut iGuidance Launcher in their own dedicated folder. This new AstroGPS folder is sitting in my program files folder on the device memory. When I tap the short cut i get the "cannot open, certificate" error.
What am i doing wrong? Do i need the SK Shortcut Manager? Can anyone post it in case i do need it? So far I have GPSGate and iNav 4.0 on my mogul. I hope the AstroGPS launcher really helps speed up he process of opening iNav. As for using the TalynOne mortscript launcher, I read the instructions and got really lost. I downloaded the files and have them waiting in the wings for when i finally read a good tutorial or figure it out on my own. **edit** I moved AstroGPSLauncher folder up the the root device memory (in there where the windows folder is under my device) The AstroGPSlauncher will open iNav now. However, I still need to start GPSgate manually after iNav is open. Good thing is the GPSgate icon turns green with a fixed lock right after opening it. I am guessing this is were I need to go one step further and figure out the TalynOne launcher to open GPSGate and Inav all in one step. Correct? Thanks! JB |

oi my head hurts...I will work on the TalynOne Launcher tomorrow. Hope I can figure it out. :)

Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
The AstroGPSLauncher works perfectly, thank you very much. But - for some reason my Iguidance voice messages are a little sluggish. When it tells you the directions to turn or whatever, it seems to be pausing between words. it's very odd.
Any suggestions?? |

Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
Quick question, I assume that this application has the same issue as BAF gps toggle that if you let your phone go into standby mode with GPS active that you are unable to get a GPS lock again until you soft reset?
I started using this app about 2 days ago and I love it! Im just still figuring everything out as far as usability goes however. It appears that my above question is true and you need to disable standby mode when you use GPS, but i just want to make sure. Thanks guys! -Sayajin |
Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other

Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
I'm feeling very dense here. I made a new folder in my root directory called AstroGPSLauncher. I then installed the .zip file posted by rsbrown69, double-tap it, then copy and paste the file into the AstroGPSLauncher folder and paste a shortcut into the Start menu. When I tap the Start menu, then the AstroGPSLauncher icon, nothing happens. Clearly I'm missing a step or two. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I still use Astro GPS launcher with TomTom 7, I have read that people find they dont need it to "prime the GPS" but I already had it set up anyways in my personal oem. The biggest problem is most people creating OEM's for kitchens keep all the files in the Windows directory but if you install the program they generally install in a program files\... folder. The shortcuts I posted in the zips point to the default install directory if you installed by cab or cd. etc. I always set up my OEM's to install in the correct or defualt directorys that way my shortcuts will always work.
I have been picking up a fix within about 5-20 seconds even after a fresh build. I do not change any settings in TomTom 7 or in the GPS settings on the PPC. The first time I installed TT7 from a cab the first fix took about 30-40 seconds for some reason so you may just need to hang out outside for a little while to help it get that first fix. my settings are: in TT7 selected "Built-in GPS receiver" In External GPS Settings Programs tab - GPS Program port is COM4 Hardware tab - GPS hardware port is (none) and baud rate is 4800 in access tab - Manage GPS automatically... is checked *Edit: I have attached the "initflashfiles.txt" files I use in each OEM that directs the OEM to install the programs in their correct directories when you build a kitchen. Simply unzip these files in your corresponding OEM folders. |
Re: AstroGPSLauncher - Launch Tomtom/iGuidance/Other
