Help Please, I need to root and install a better ROM on my EPIC
I have an epic with the gingerbread rom from Samsung on it. I wanted to root it and install a better rom that would not suck up all my ram but ran into a problem. I am operating on a 64bit computer and seems that ODIN is 32bit. I can not get it to work on my computer with windows 7 64bit. Can anyone shed light for me as to how I root my phone and proceed with a better rom? Thanks.

Odin should work on x86 or x64 but you need the samsung x64 bit drivers to connect to your pc. Do a google search and you will find them. I believe they are on xda aswell under the epic development section. Read up on using odin, with the wrong settings checked you could brick your phone. |

I had the same problem as the OP and the drivers helped. HOWEVER, I had to uninstall all the drivers then reinstall them again..... |

Minor problems that could cause Odin failures (once you have the right drivers) include the crappy Sammy usb connection cord. I switched to a Blackberry cord and everything worked better. You might also might try connecting using a different usb slot on your PC if you're not getting the results you want.

At work I have to connect to the USB ports on the back of the tower...directly connected to the mother board...front slots just don't cut it.
