Voodoo sound/Sound Quality
 

Well I ended up trading off the nexus s and epic for brand new in box evo3d bc of just better specs but now I'm ready to get rid of it for a sgs2 or if that update and fix this damn thing I might keep but number thing I miss most about epic is the damn voodoo patch omg bc I'm always in the car and listen to music but music blows with the evo I wish they had a voodoo sound patch for HTC and I hit dev up to ask if he plans to work with HTC but no luck yet on an answer so idk evo is OK but sgs2 will eat evo3d for breakfast.

I don't think the Evo3d will ever be able to get the sound the Epic has..thing about the Epic is it has one of the best if not the best sound chip, the Wolfson WM8994E..

The problem was that Samsung did not include proper drivers..thus you couldn't take full advantage of the chipset..What voodoo sound does is rewrite of proper drivers + config utility..

If the Evo 3d uses a cheap sound chipset like the original Evo, you may be able to get some improvements but it won't be anywhere close to the Epic's sound quality.

So is that chip set on the sgs2 or does it have one even better than the epic. Bc it seems to me this voodoo sound patch is only gonna be a Samsung thing expect his eeepad he's working on but now HTC that I can see. Ur insight gten. I just miss the epic now should have kept the nexus but I wanted a dual core phone I can care less about 3d all that is r bragging rights

The SGS2 has a Yamaha YMU818B / MC-1N, its not as good as Wolfson WM8994E in our Epics, but definitely better then the one in the Evo...There is a rumor though that some models of the SGS2 will have the Wolfson..we will see..

The asus transformer uses a wolfson WM8903, thus voodoo sound..but its also not as good as the one in the Epic/Galaxy Tab..

So its not a Samsung only thing..its as long as HTC keeps putting in cheap audio chipsets..not much can be done...

Long story short, Epic has one of the best sound chipsets inside the phone, samsung unfortunately put in generic drivers..so while the sound is good it can be a lot better then even ipods.

To use it all you need is a kernel with voodoo sound and the voodoo sound app on the market...then with a few configs your good to go!

im using this and love it plus with "undervolt" i never had better battery life.

Doh you guys have finally hit on something that might be worth rooting my phone for!! ..dang it... I dont suppose there's any other way to get the Wolfson Chipset benefits?

I noticed there is a difference in Rooting and flashing a kernel? Can somebody tell me the easiest way to achieve the benefits of the Wolfson chipset?

just use the one click root method or bonsai root method whichever you prefer..it will install a custom recovery as well called Clockworkmod...

you boot into clockworkmod and then select the zip file of the kernel to flash.

Well I think bonsai has there own recovery tho I think that comes with there root. I almost want to find another clean epic just to root flash kernel and just use as a mp3 player so I can have my voodoo sound back I mean its really that bad I miss it or I should have kept the nexus bc I think the nexus and the epic use the exact same chip sets. So if I can find a cheap epic in great condition I'm in there for the best iPod ever so far until Samsung or someone else using the chip set or better. But I talked to dude that makes voodoo sound and all and he said for me to let him know exactly what chip set it as he said audio hardware so maybe he can work something for HTC phones or just maybe the evo3d if its worth it so idk but I tried irc on the #android channel and no luck so hopefully u might know so I can relay the message and maybe see some voodoo on my evo3d well I'm off to bed just had a 4 day working on my car all suspension and a rear disc swap and I'm pooped night family

Yes it does..if you want to just buy one to use as a music player thugh it might be cheaper to buy a vibrant/captivate/international sgs..as they are thinner too to keep as music players only..

Looking around even on the original Evo 4g..I see no information on any DAC in the teardowns..which makes me believe that it might just be using integrated sound in the snapdragon :/ and no dedicated DAC...IF thats the case not much can be done to improve the audio :/

Damn that sucks well if u can find something out that would be great and I forgot all the other galaxy s phones had that chip set I wish I could get a tab but that would be a huge mp3 player hehe
