Force 3g only
 

My epic keeps flipping from 3g to 1x and I'm even using amplifier. My touch pro 2 had a app that forced 3g only. I really hope there is a way to do this with the epic 4g. I'm sure there is, but it's way above what I know about phones. If anyone knows of anyway to do this, please let me know.

gten thank you very much. So far that is working great. It's been steady on 3g now for the passed 3 hours. I believe you found a way to keep me from sending the epic back. Again thanks, because I'm really liking the epic.

forcing 3g on all time wont mess up being able to connect to 4g?

Also does doing that actually give u 3g speeds in areas where u only get 1x or does it only make the top signal bar say 3g

Well I can't get 4g where I'm at so that doesn't matter. As for the just saying 3g and getting 1x speed, not really. I'm not constantly getting 3g speed it fluctuates. I know my TP2 gave me better speed at my house. I'll have to test it at work where I get better 3g service. But so far it looks like its staying on 3g. Every once in a while I notice the phone rebooted, not sure if that is the wifi app or what, but so far I can live with it.

what wifi app are you using?(if android wifi tether which version) also you can try to get better speeds by trying different radios too I guess..

I'm using the app that comes with SFR 1.1.1 Not sure what number it is. My modem I think is ec05, because that's what I odined too flash SFR. Is there a where to flash just modem without messing with the rom? If so where can I locate different modems. For example I seen that the new EFO10 modem is out, but would I need to flash a whole new rom or can just the modem work.

You can flash modems with odin, no need to swap roms. As for wifi tethering, the one that comes by default is a Beta version..its cool because it does infrastructure wifi tethering (The kind our TP2 could not do) and gives more stable wifi..but its still a beta so the app itself is not the most stable...there is a 2.0.7 in the market which is Ad-hoc tethering and should not reset the phone like that.

Cool I found the link to where there are different modems. I'm going to try ee03 and ef02 to see how they work, thanks again guys. Would updating the prl work too. How can we manual update prl on the epic, or can't we do that.

DO NOT USE EF MODEM ON THAT ROM TOUR USING, i almost bricked my epic trying it but maybe it was just my case and not sure why it would matter but my epic was past the usual "semi brick" but EE modem works very well. the wifi app your using is pre 14 btw.

Hybrid mode
CDMA only mode
EVDO only mode

If I remember correctly Hybrid is the default, cdma only is 1x only, an Evdo only is 3g only..

I believe that is correct gten. That's how I understand it. I just flashed bonsai rom v 4.1.1, then his kernel for those who donated at least $5, and man is it smooth. So far no hiccups, but only been running it about 8 hours so far.

i did the force 3g exactly as stated and when i had 1x it turned it to 3g but now its going back to 1x then NO network at all and normally i dont have those issues im going to put it back the way it was

I think that if you don't have any 3g service it won't make it have 3g. So if you normally only have 1x, that's all you will get. At my house I get 3g for a while then it turns to 1x, then it will flip back to 3g. It just keeps flipping like that. So putting evdo only helps me tremendously, and GTEN i have to say thanks again. Your a phone saver hehe.

I have 3g n 4g as well but for some reason I was only getting 1x so I did this and then I was not having any network at all
