Question about EXT4 File System & CW3 Versions

Hey all,

I was wondering what this new EXT4 file system is, specifically in regards to using with CW3

My rom manger is version 3.0.1.4
however the CW mod says in the program I have version CW v 3.0.2.4

There are only 2 to choose from in rom manger, 3.0.2.4 or an older 3.0.1.4

However when I 3 button booted into CW it says it is v2.5.1.0

Not sure were people are getting these other CW3 versions from.

EXT4 is a filesystem thats opensource and is commonly used on linux and is used in the Nexus S, it replaces RFS filesystem on our phones. The CW3 that we have bundles in a script that converts your filesystem from RFS to EXT4..this increases the speed of your devices...mostly the I/O...

Rom manager has nothing to do with Clockworkmod....its just an App with a Android UI for controlling Clockworkmod...the version of Rom manager is irrelevant...

The clockwork that you are using is 2.5, thats what we use with RFS roms and stock roms...if you load up Clockworkmod 3, you will automatically be converted to RFS, there you will need a EXT4 compatible kernel...

Edit: Clockworkmod 3 can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612

load it only if you plan to convert to EXT4

Got ya, so in order to install Bonsai or similar I need to flash CW3,

Will I be able to go back to a stock rom if I use CW3 since it has RFS and I installed Bonsai which changed everything to EXT4?

Everything is changed to EXT4 when you install CW3...and yes you can go back via Odin or EB13 tool to stock..as always data will be wiped.

Also note when going EXT4 you gotta choose journaling or no journaling

Some roms allow both ext4 and rfs...in bonai case I think its EXT4 only with no journaling..

What's the difference between journaling and no journaling?

By the way gTen, thanks for all your help. Right now i got an EC05 modem, with the twilight kernel and syndicate rom, and it's sick. I used quadrant standard and scored 1673, its crazy fast.

No journaling gives you more speed but at the cost of some stability..aka make sure your phone does not run out of battery or shut off improperly or it can cause data corruption or hard reset.

Journaling is slower but is more table.

1673 is actually really slow, i get that on stock and on twilight i get minimum scores of 2200

Just to give a comparison, I'm getting scores around 1800 running the midNIGHT rom 5.1 new Bonsai kernel and journaling on. I probably could get better scores if I changes the settings a bit or tried a different kernel.
