Need help, will pay $$$

The last time I flashed a custom ROM (Original HTC Touch Pro), it was an 8+ hour process of reading forums, experimenting, reading how-to's, figuring out what ROM was best, etc.

Unfortunately, I just can't spare that kind of time nowadays. I'm willing to pay an EXPERT who's been keeping up with ROMs and the flashing process to help me root and flash my phone.

I flashed the originally-thought-to-be-OEM-DK28 on my phone and while it flashed correct, I've had nothing but problems since. It lags like a windows mobile 6.x phone now.

I've been wanting to root for a while so here's what I'm looking for:

* Full, step-by-step instructions on how to back up my data (if necessary), and then root and flash my phone to the fastest, most stable custom ROM available. I want to be able to complete the entire process in under an hour. Please make sure you are very well-versed in the different ROMs available -- do not just flash your first ROM and then send me directions on it.

* List of any potential bugs/instabilities I might need to be aware of.

* A tutorial (with links) on how to replicate these homescreens:

I'm willing to pay $25 or a bit more if you're local and can come to me (Temecula, CA area) to do it onsite. PM me if you have any questions or if you'd like to take the job.

Re: Need help, will pay $$$

you can save your money and just go to XDA-developers. There is 100 how to's and it is very easy. You don't need to back up anything to "root" your device either as it's just a one click process. As far as stability goes then you might want to wait a few more days/weeks as all ROM being created now are based off of Froyo 2.2 and there is no source for the Kernel so some things are still buggy. I myself haven't had a problem running any 2.2 Rom's though.

FYI: you don't need a custom ROM or root access to duplicate that homescreen. The program is called "launcherPro" and they have just installed a custom dock bar with custom icons...all of which can be downloaded free.

Re: Need help, will pay $$$

Appreciate the help, nvmyc, but I need something like right now. My phone is basically a windows mobile 6.x phone that's been without a flash for a few months. In other words, nearly unusable. Every few minutes it freezes up or lags hardcore. You click the gmail button and a white screen comes up for like 20 seconds until gmail opens.

The reason I'm willing to spend the money is because I'm super busy and I just don't have the time to spend over an hour looking for things or figuring out which one-click root works, or what widgets are on that launcher pro screen, or where to find that custom dock bar, or what ROM to install. I want one email with ALL of that info so I can knock it ALL out in an hour.

So I'm willing to pay what it costs to have an expert do that for me.

Darren's right. We have a wiki that answers pretty much everything you need to know, and you could read it and do what it says in less than an hour.

http://wiki.ppcgeeks.com/index.php?title=Sprint_Epic_4g

And as far as which ROM to flash, that's like asking someone which car to drive or which soft drink to buy. Everyone has their personal likes and dislikes. Now, having said that, I really like the midNIGHT ROM that ptfdmedic has created. Its fast, stable and has the best battery life of any Froyo ROM I've tried (and I've tried just about all of them). Click on the banner in my sig and it will take you there.

Im taking offers... $50 per consultation. $75 to root the phone for you. $100 to flash into clockwork. :-D

Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk while your mom was putting her clothes on.

what lock screens? if you're talking about the one that the OP posted, they're call Home screens.

To the OP:

I don't think it's possible on the android the only way I see it is if you take a screen shot from your wm phone then port it to android as icons and wallpapers. You will have to map those icons with apps. I think Launcher Pro would help you but then again I don't have any experience on that. Just saying..

oh, I thought those were lock screens. would make beautiful lock screens, but terrible homescreens.

No, those are actually widgets on the home screen of Launcher Pro...you don't even need to have Launcher Pro to have the weather, clock and date on there like in the pic....just the custom dock bar you would need "LP"....

lol you guys are really resistance to this monetization thing, huh? I'll give it a shot for an hour and report back my progress. If it takes longer than that, I'll repost here with my offer.

Also -- any other opinions on ROMs are greatly appreciated.

How stable is the midnight ROM? What are the bugs/quirks?

Its not that we are adverse to taking your money. For me modding my Android phone is a journey, not a destination. I think that you should learn how to do it because as soon as you think you're done, someone will come out with something newer, faster, cooler, etc etc. I haven't kept the same ROM on my phone for more than 2 weeks since I got it (although midNIGHT looks like a keeper - at least until the official release of Froyo).

The midNIGHT ROM is very stable and very fast. I have been running it for a few days now and so far no bugs to report. I did have a strange thing happen yesterday - my ringer stopped working. But that happened right after I flashed Timberwolf's theme over this ROM, so there was probably some conflict generated there. Soft reset fixed it. You are going to have to flash the modem with Odin since its a Froyo release, so there's one more step you need to learn.

EDIT: I just realized I more or less repeated what I said in my previous post. You are probably looking for someone else to give you their opinion, not just me repeating the same thing. Sorry.](*,)

He should already have the modem as he flashed the update.zip ota...all he needs to do is run the 1 click root/clockworkmod and install the rom.

---------------------

In my personal opinion I think you should give it yourself a shot and if anything ask for suggestions..you don't have to go crazy on learning everything at once..little by little wins the race...if you pay someone to do it, are you going to pay to update it every new version? are you going to pay someone when things go wrong?

But hey its your choice..just giving my 4 cents (inflation)

Darren graciously offered to help me on IM and even with his help every step of the way, it took us FOUR HOURS to get this done. We just got done now. It probably would have taken more than double the amount of time had I done this by myself. I dont know about you guys, but $25 is DEFINITELY worth 4 hours of my time.

In any case, thank you Darren for all the support. PM me your paypal email address.

P.S. Midnight ROM looks sweet.

Glad you got your Epic up & running.....Darren is an awesome guy that is always willing and more than happy to help others out. You don't get a rep score like he's got for nothing! He has definately helped me out of a jam more than once.

Have fun searching for a ROM you like! I'm currently running midNIGHT without any issue to speak of. I have also had good success using Viper's ROM. Just my 2 cents

if its feeling laggy i highly recommend "setcpu for root users" and set the main profile to "performance mode" 1000Mhz max 100mhz min and add a "screen off" conservative profile, and add a temp (conservative 200 max 100min) profile around 35 C so it can cool down before it over heats from running at full speed. at least thats what I have mines set too.. you don't have to copy me.. i mean im not telling you to over clock so your not at serious risk because your not pushinging your cpu past what is set by the manufacture. im just suggestion it because i noticed a huge improvement in addressing ALL lag by telling my phone cpu to always run at full speed when im actively using it. they more so have their scaling set to whatever for a mix of performance and battery life, tho i haven't really noticed a big negative impact having mines set to max.

Performance = it will always run at top speed.

Conservative = it will conservatively adjust as needed, but will go back down to the lowest speed otherwise.

batterysaver = will always preform at the lowest speed set.

Ondemand = simular to conservative just... less conservative so its faster at adjusting the cpu speed on the fly.

and userspace = some type of setting that allows you to manually set the scaling performance ... i'm not advanced so i don't bother it.

"set cpu" will do absolutely nothing on the dk28 builds (yet) kernel is stock and not overclocked so its doing nothing.

it will still scale your processor differently than the stock kernel settings, so it doesn't "do nothing" but with stock voltage and clock-speeds, it won't do as much as say an undervolted overclocked kernel so you can actually set some nice profiles and get performance/battery power streamlined.
