Back button is being activated by itself

Not sure how to search for something like this and i don't think i read about this problem so far; But my back button is operating by itself.

For example.
When i was watching a movie. I can see the capacitive buttons blink and it would keep on blinking until i return to home screen. This is with the phone resting on some books with no hand interaction.
When i was navigating with google nav it would keep on backing me out too the normal google maps.

As you can see, this is pretty annoying. Anyone have a similar problem or know of a way i can fix this? I cannot duplicate this because it happens randomly.

Yep did try a hard reset. This happened on my last epic that I had before i exchanged it due to a mic problem.
I am not sure what programs might cause this issue.

Well not 100% true, I had rockplayer installed so i could watch movies. This was when this possesed back button started happening.

Hmm i do work in a lab were we test conductive coatings. I wonder if some of the pigment got onto the screen.

I recently started having this problem. Stock phone not rooted. Plenty of stupid stuff downloaded and installed but I have restarted my phone and have this happen when I even try to open google talk or programs that have come with phone. Its gotten worse over time. It happened when I first got it but then went a few weeks without it doing it now it happens daily. Its completely random. Its like a ghost is sitting there tapping the eff outta the back button. Cant stop it, it just freaks out. According to the giant rumor mill 2.2 is due out soon so I may wait for that and update see if it changes. If not im returning phone and swapping it out. It definetly makes me angry when Im halfway through a message and it does it. Sure it saves to draft but dammit i shouldnt have to deal with this crap.

Im not a noob to phones and flashing roms/rooting. I flashed roms on my old touch pro and it didnt seem to improve much. Stock is just fine for what I do, besides for anything else there is an app for that : )

I'm having the same problem with my Epic as well, it seems to happen at random times regardless of what is running. It happened while stock and with all other ROMs I've run as well. As far as I can tell, its a defect in the capacitive screen; if I press firmly on it for a few seconds or "rub" that section of the screen, it stops, or at least subsides for awhile. At least I know I'm not the only one now.

If you have this issue, have sprint replace it as a manufacturers defect..no reason to stick with a phone that has issues...
