Dk05 - Dk17 leaks lag?

Whats this talk about lag from everyone? so far these leaks have been good to me besides the earlier gps issues. But I did notice something odd this afternoon and I need to bring this to every ones attention. I have in my hands 2 Epics. One my right is mines, flashed dk17. On my left, another Epic, stock never been rooted. Ok. I open the native 3d picture viewer on both devices. I hold the vertically on the same picture. I turn both at the same time horizontally. The stock epic switches to landscape in under 1 second. My rooted epic switches in about 3 to 4 seconds. Is that the lag everyone is talking about?

There are others like when I come out of an application it takes 5 seconds to load the home screen or sometimes you have a little black blink and then it redraws...but hey these are Betas so things liek that are expected..at least they are stable for the most part.

But is that the lag everyone is talking about? it happens to everything. All the browsers and programs switch to landscape very slow.sometimes out takes 6 or more second. I reloaded stock with clockwork mod and even now the lags is like the leaks.and out doesn't switch no more. How do I flash it back to stock? Odin? Cuz cwm doesn't seem to be enough.

Ok. Redid everything. Wiped 3 timed. Use odin to flash dk17 that gten llama suggested. Then when odin finished, I rebooted to cwm and flashed the lagfix.zip. Now I'm rebooted, Android finished scanning media. Tested pics, web and programs. Theres still a 4 to 5 second delay to switching to landscape and visa versa. Fail. Stock is soooo fast. Now that I've used 2.2 and played with 2nd epic on stock, I realize how much faster stock 2.1 is. If only flash 10.1 worked on 2.1. :(

!!!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!!!!

THE LAG IS NOT FROM THE BETA LEAKS! ITS THE EPICS G SENSORS BEING UNCALIBRATED AFTER THE FLASH!

DOWNLOAD ( ANDROID TERMINAL) FROM THE MARKET. THEN TYPE THIS IN:

su
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND REPORT BACK. YOU WILL BE SHOCKED HOW FAST THE GSENSOR RESPONDS! NOW GIT! GIT! GIT!

I did exactly what you said and saw a slight improvement. I didn't have a 4-5 second lag when rotating the screen though. My screen switched to landscape in about 1.5 seconds. Now it switches in about 3/4 of a second.

Glass half empty - only improved it by 3/4 of a second.
Glass half full-cut the rotate time in half.

Give it a shot. It definitely does something.

Thats not bad! Its worth the effort. I noticed that the gsensor need this after a conplete flash from odin or clockworkmod. If I dont, I get a terrible 4-6 second lag when I try to get it to switch to landscape. After doing this fix, its ad fast as eclair just like you said, under a second switch. :)

I got tired of waiting on the official Froyo and flashed This last night.
[Stock Flash][Odin]Dk17 Extended 11/28/2010 W/ Working Camera Fix. - xda-developers

It's basically a Stock, rooted, dk17 Froyo Rom. 1-click install using Odin, it couldn't get any easier.

I'm not seeing any lag at all. Opened a photo like you described, and it switches to landscape almost instantly when I tilt the phone.

Everything is working great, even Fullscreen Hulu in the Stock browser.
Errr. everything EXCEPT GPS. Have Yet to get a lock. Tried the gpsfix.zip, didn't work. My GPS barely worked on stock D18. May have to try the fix: Flash D18, get a gps lock, flash DK17.

Just wiped everything 3x and flashed Viper 2.6. Still no GPS. Left it outside for an hour and kept trying but NADA! GPS test shows no sats. If I turn on use wifi it locks in seconds but is a mile off. Turn off Use Wifi and I get "cannot find your location"

Also couldn't set the stock browser to desktop so Hulu wouldn't work with it.

I'll be damned if this didn't fix the 3g speed... It take forever to download a 58kb file from the phone. I can attest that my stock rom un rooted performed 200 x better in 3g speeds than this rom.

There has to be something else going on there. I have the same ROM running and my GPS locks in a couple of seconds, even with "Use Wireless Networks" disabled and its dead on balls accurate. I know I'm not giving you a solution, but the problem isn't the ROM.

Yeah I don't know what the deal is. I used Odin to Flash back to a completely stock DI18 and still could not get GPS to work. Looks like I'll be using my external bluetooth GPS when I need it.

I'd take it back and get a new one.

gullzway 12-03-2010 09:31 AM

So after trying everything, just turned on gps while driving around at work and got an instant lock that's dead on!

Go figure.

Can't really take it back anyway, bought it on craigslist.

You can use the external bluetooth gps? LoL that's so old school... I have one layin around somewhere in the house for when I had the palm Treo 750. Didn't think how it could be useful in the future after I upgraded unless you're using it with a netbook without gps built in.

Yeah I haven't used it since I had a Touch, but it worked with the epic. Fortunately after my last flash from DI18 back to Froyo my Epic gets an instant gps lock.

This phone is "Epic" Made my iphone friend jealous tonight streaming all the football games and ufc from the stock browser!

I used the modified stock browser from this post. xda-developers - View Single Post - [MOD] Hulu on the Epic 4g (2.2.1 FROYO) [UPDATE 11/22/10]
Uninstalled stock browser using Titanium Backup, Then flashed this one using recovery.

channelsurfing.net or atdhe.net. For some reason most of the links today required a plugin only available on a PC. The Redzone link worked though.

sp4rtan5 12-11-2010 03:27 AM

For those having gps non lock issues,

Flash back to stock.

Boot, get gps lock on googlemaps

Flash dk28. Gps fixed.
