EPIC 4G (EV) Compatibility?

Hey all,

I currently have an HTC Touch Pro 2. It's been acting up like the past 2-4 HTC phones I've exchanged within the past year. I've had it with HTC and currently looking for an alternative. I've thought about the EVO but due to my past experiences, I'm leaning towards the Samsung EPIC (Besides all the other features, I need QWERTY! haha).

My question is: Does the Samsung EPIC support (EV) speeds? If not, is there a hack...if any or possible? And if not, what phone would you recommend as an alternative?

I'm currently under sprints "sero" plan and would hate to renew it for another 2 years and/or end up paying more for an upgrade/change in data plan.

Appreciate the feedback! Thanks. :)

But you will end up paying an extra $20 and your account will be changed to a Sero Premium account.

Is [EV] the same as EVDO? I am assuming [EV] based on the little [EV] icon on my TP2 (Sprint). Based on my sprint "sero" plan, a friend of mine said I have [EV] speeds which is not (3G) speeds therefore will not be compatible with the Samsung Epic or HTC EVO.

Most definitely! I was leaning towards the EVO until a friend of mine shoved his epic in my face, haha. I was very impressed with the phone. Hence, the reason why I need to clarify the compatibility. The only drawback for me was: the phone (not the screen) feels easily breakable. Will need to find a good cover.

I heard the "sero" plan is no longer issuable or upgradable? I might be moving abroad in the near future, hence, I'm trying to avoid any contract renewals.

Thanks for the reply's, much appreciated guys.

EV on TP2 stands for EVDO and it is a form of 3G for CDMA....right now there are 2 types used by sprint..Rev 0 and Rev A..with Rev A being the faster of the 2...Epic supports both...and at same time supports 4G which is even faster then EVDO as long as its in your area.

Epic > EVO in build quality..but a case could not hurt

As of oct 1st there was an addon called "SERO PREMIUM" and for $10 extra a month gives you same benefits as a regular everything data plan.

And if your moving somewhere else..and plan to use the phone they must support CDMA and allow the device for you to use the phone on their network. Most of the world uses GSM.

Thanks for the heads up and clarification guys! :)

I actually have no intention of keeping the phone if/when I go abroad. Thank goodness for phone insurance. I was able to go from 1 Mogul, 2 TP1's, to 2 TP2's through warranty and a little upgrade persuasion. All in 1 year ](*,). Either call it bad luck in phones or HTC's are horrible :???:. I consider it "good luck" =P. Now to work my magic and get an Epic.

Cheers.

Re: EPIC 4G (EV) Compatibility?

Had to speak with a sprint representative for other reasons but then clarified the [EV] compatibility. No upgrade to my "sero" plan is needed (if i was to upgrade to an Epic). Speeds will not be any faster besides the browser due to the phone processor. Which I already expected. Upgrading $10/$20 per month for faster speeds will not affect or renew any contract either. Only when signing a new contract or upgrading a phone with rebate.

Anyone having issues with any HTC products with the Android UI?

Anyone know of a comparable phone to the HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint)? Not an upgrade but a comparable phone.

With the following must features:
Full internet browser
Qwerty sliding keyboard
Tethering (as a modem, not wifi)

Thanks ahead! =)

The only phones on sprint that have a kb: Samsung Intercept, Samsung Transform, Samsung Epic

Epic is the best one out of those by a long shot..and as stated..if you have 4g internet will be a lot faster then EV

in 2011 there will be HTC Knight
