Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
This is my first Android phone and I love it so far but I keep getting an annoying issue.
Several times already I have accidentally switched to another line or hung up with my cheek. Any option to fix this? Hung up on some important phone calls today. |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
Hmm. Is your phone not sensing your cheek? Usually the screen should shut off while it's against your face. I know there's an option somewhere.

Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
The Ambient Light sensor?
|
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
It should be set by default to shut the screen off when in a call and pressed against your face (or when the light sensor is covered...)

Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
I do not think there is a way to shut off the proximity sensor. Make a phone call and put your thumb in front of those 3 clear circles right to the left of the speakers and see if your screen shuts off.
If not then you need a new phone. |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
The sensor works and turns off the screen when close to the face. However when i press it to my cheek with my shoulder, the screen lights up. Maybe cuz I am touching the screen.

Hm...what happens when you press the power button during a phone call? |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
with these phones you really need a hands free

or cheaper alternative would be applying a rubber-band that stretch around your head with the phone...? Go Staples... that was easy lol |

I find myself pressing the mute quite often when im not using my bluetooth

Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
Well of course... that's what blue tooth's used for... man this thread is sooooo predictable! It should be closed and used as a sticky.
Edit: in the Epic forum for dummies. lol |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
I have to agree with the OP's stance on it being annoying. I never had this problem with my TP2 andit's proximity sensor, yet have ran into it several times with the Epic. As to those saying to use hands free I say that while it is generally a good idea when possible, one shouldn't be forced into always running the risk of accidentally hanging up the phone with one's phone... especially an "Epic" phone such as this. I do really like my phone, but this one issue has annoyed me quite a bit.

Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
plus using the blue tooth will drain the hell out of your battery......in past and other phones, there is a option to disable the screen during a call......anybody know if there is an app that can do that

Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
:scratch:You must have a really big round chubby face to make an big issue out of it. Anyways... back to the topic:
What you're looking for is Screebl - a background service that monitors the phone's orientation, and based on that orientation decides when to allow the phone's power-saving features to operate. There's a PRO version too that allows for integration with Locale amidst other extra features. Also check out Shake Awake from Maplekey (in the market) - it allows you to wake the phone during a call with a shake. I also think that pressing the HOME key should turn the screen on again. Try and let us know. Don't flame me for the remark I made, If I helped.. Thank me. If I didn't help, feel free to flame... oh wait. That's not allowed. j/k lol :wav::welcome1: |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
I'm actually really skinny lol
It just happens to me all the time in the middle of a phone call. I could be using my hands to type or write something down while talking and the phone switches to the add another call (3way) feature. I push it down with my face when i hold the phone between the shoulder and head (which is how we all held phones before they became smart phones). I looked at my self in the mirror and noticed that the while the screen turns off initially it can light back up when moving my head around (i think when it gets too horizontal). The most frustrating thing was how hard it was to figure out how to switch back to the original call. I finally realised it was the back 'hard' key button, you dont know how many calls I lost like this lol. Anyway the only solution seems to be to hold it with one hand and type with one hand I think. Speakerphone isnt as clear and I dont have time to fumble with those headphones. Also the BT is a pain because yo have to charge it and it always gets lost. What really needs to happen is some kind of lock button such as the slider that protects from pocket dial. Anyone? |

But if your main issue is talking and typing at the same time, then it seems to me that you are experiencing this issue mostly while sitting in front of a computer. I fail to see how headphones won't help you out here. I mean sure the headphones are a PITA while walking around or doing several things at once, but if you are just sitting at a desk? But OK, let's just agree that you hate headphones. Your big issue with Bluetooth is that you have to charge it and it can get lost. Again, if you are sitting at a desk, buy a Bluetooth headset that comes with a desktop charging cradle. You sit down, take it off the charger and put it on. When you're done, put it back on the charger. Human beings are creatures of habit. All you have to do is create the habit as soon as you buy the new BT headset. |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?

Yes hands free is a good way, but no matter what there will be times when you are on the run and dont have a headset ready. Is there a way to change the "add call" button or all phone buttons to 'press and hold'? Someone should make a key sliker lock for when a call is in progress and proximity sensor is up. Android should really have this. |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
I dont know if this meets your needs but you can try it:
I don't know if it works with the Epic either but anyways its an app called: Proximity Screen Off Take Control With Proximity Screen Off | xda-developers FYI i've never tried it..but you might be able to program it to use gestures to shut off and on the screen.. |
Re: Anyone switch calls by accident with their cheek when talking?
Apparantly the sensor has problems with hair, and I do have long hair so that may be it.
I found some talk on google that there was an app on the G1 that would do this: Quote:

Is what I linked not good enough?

I guess thats what I should do is just turn off the screen with the hardware button if i know I need to use both hands. lol I guess thats simple enough. Still would be cool if someone had an app that would automatically enable a lock screen when prox sensor is activated that requires a swipe to get back to the phone app. With an option to enable and disable. |
