Thanks for the correction ;)

np, i still keep a titanium back up for emergency use and to the op if you flash a rom with no kernel your existing kernel will stay or you can just flash any kernel. kernels are odd cause some contain boot image changes that i like but dont like there kernel, need some cooks to zip just there boot screens.

One more question.....if I am doing a full restore to a previous ROM that I backed up, do I need to wipe everything first like you do when installing a custom ROM, or can I just go right to the restore function?

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Epic : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; SPH-D700 Build/ECLAIR) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

pretty good thread. I'm going to have to read it a few more times for it to sink in. informative most def and I'm one interested in flashing

More thanks for all the threaded info. This is really good stuff. I think I understand the issues now (and I'm a long way from geekdom). Also I can see why CWM is a good thing to have.

One question. Excuse in advance if it's a dumb one. Unlike flashing roms, what happens to the root and CWM when Froyo 2.2 is released. Do you have to do everything again after you install it? Or is it like any new cooked rom which would mean the root and CWM are still permanent?

Re: Create backup of my current ROM

Anything you flash with Clockwork should retain root. If you use Odin and return to stock in order to use the OTA Froyo update then you will have to re-root and install Clockwork again. I would just wait for the cooks to post a custom Froyo ROM here and flash it with Clockwork. That's what I am planning on doing,

Actually, I was thinking this thread should be summarized and put in the wiki.
