Bonsai MasterKey for unlocking/rooting
 

i think new useers not unlocked/rooted will like this. i actually like it better than "oneclick" but maybe its just me. need to register to get it but also bonsai roms are there so its worth it.

nice to see its already being posted around.

i beta test for the bonsai guys and that installer is the easiest way to root your epic regardless of whether or not you want to run bonsai. it is even built around antivirus detection so no need to disable or add exceptions

Very polished app, I ran it on my rooted Midnight rom w ext4 just to try it and it ran smoothly and it replaced CM3 with bonsai recovery with no issues.
Anybody try this from a fresh stock non rooted Epic yet?

Well this sounds easy enough for even me to try. I'm not a noob but I'm not very adventuresome. I've got a fresh stock nonrooted Epic. When I had Eclair, I had Z4root but that wouldn't play with either of the Froyo updates so I did a hard reset and now my present EC05 is clean.

But first... a dumb question or three:
It looks like I have to install through my computer. Are all the necessary drivers included in the dl?
Do I have to remove this root app to get the next Sprint/Samsung update when it comes someday?
And, if so, how do I do that? (I don't understand what odin is or how to get it if that's part of the answer. lol)

I noticed that there was a painful lack of info or documentation on the Bonsai site when I registered and dl'd. There seems to be an assumption that people will know what they are doing...!

you still need drivers on pc but thats simple and not positive on updates but 99% sure you will need to be stoc and yes that involves odin which is very simple to use and i will help ya with odin if ya need it it but it really is simple.

Greetings PPCGeekers, thought I would pop my head in over hear and see if I can answer any questions on the Bonsai stuff. I see several folks have stepped up to answer these question. That is great.

You are correct to assume that if you ever want to go back to the stock ROM as provided by Sprint, you will need to use something like ODIN to get it there. Not a huge hurdle once you have done it.

We're pretty confident that once you make the leap to running an unlocked and custom ROM, you won't want to go back to that Sprint ROM world. :-)

The MasterKey app does not install any files on your local computer. Simply unpacks some tools to temporary drive space, unlocks your phone, installs the latest version of Bonsai Recovery, Cleans up and exits.

As for documentation, we've made attempts to make this as easy as possible. That includes a walk through of instructions that shows how to configure your phone for the process, etc. Can't get any easier really. If you can download and run the app, that is about as much as you need to know.

We hope this new tool will take the whole concept of running custom ROMs to the next level.

i think xda has some sort of complex about themselves.... i wounder if they would allow a forum site about how great ppc geeks are.... i think we should preach about this on sunday at church tell all epic users to use it.... we should have billboards on highways.... (now that the end of the world is not near several billboards are now available.)

we should name a month for bonsai

the passwords are free in the sense that all you have to do is to sign up for a free account and you dont have to deal with megaupload and other sites that have pirates on them.....

lol, you know what password im talking about.... im just happy bonsai team gave ppcg a try cause our members really appreciate all you cooks do to make our beloved epics run/look great. way better atmosphere here than xda. just keep support up here and we will be happy.

after all it should be up to the person who wants the software to decide if they want to download it if that person wants to register at Bonsai for Android | Why should xda say since i have to register and receive the free direct download via email that i then can not download it... reminds me of this weeks south park show were cartmen creats a crack baby basketball league... explain why not paying the crack babies or their families is OK because it is “against the rules” (which are, ironically, written by the men in charge ie cartmen).
