The EC05 modem is giving a lot of people problems. It seems to run better on the EB13 ROM - and the EB13 modem runs well on EC05 ROM - go figure.

I'm just not having a great time with it so far. 3g data sucks, there seems to be a sprint prl issue as well. Plus for what ever reason my battery life seems to have taken a hit. The rom itself seems solid. Not sure what's causing the battery hit.

Right now from what I'm seeing is it's a problem with the ec05 modem.

What would be the best way to get back to EB13 if I already flashed EC05?

you try to odin back to EB13. [EB13] Modem Update (zip and tar). - xda-developers
I am trying this now.

Edit: Just odined back.

I got a lot of force closes when after a while. I am not sure if it is the modem or the rom or just ext4.
But truthfully the most stable rom was the EB13 from samsung.

What worked for me after I installed EC05 through odin. I backed up all of my information with an application called backup everything. Then I did the reset to factory defaults in clockwork 3x wipe the cache partiation 3x and wiped the dalvik cache 3x and wipe the battery stats. I reinstalled the Rom. After that I started up. I skipped everything 4 fingered back to clockwork and did the standard install. I went back and logged in to the market. Which helped me get my contacts back at were synced with google.

I then test everything out to make sure everything is work and then reinstall all of my applications. You want to install your applications first check to see if everything is working fine and then Backup through clockwork and finally install your themes last. Because incompatible themes can make your phone force close a lot.

The Rom is solid you have something on your phone that is not playing right with the new EC05 Rom. For example I had the Bonsai Rom no heptic feedback AOSP that was causing my force close errors. I found that out after I back up everything and I installed the themes one at a time and determined after I installed the heptic feedback AOSP my phone started acting up.

The questionable items you have to install one at a time to determine if it is compatiable with the new EC05 modem. I figured that restall everything saved me more time in the long haul and now my phone is running smoothly.

P.S. My default browser and camera are working and I have zero issues with my phone. I am using 3g data to browse the internet and wireless tether. In fact it is working better than ever. Next time when they come out with a new modem. I will try once to flash the modem and the new Rom over my existing Rom and if that does not work I am just going to do a fresh reinstall because it will save me a lot of time in the long haul. I wasted a whole day trying to figure out all of the FC error issue and doing a fresh install took care of all those problem right away.

Most FC issue are resolve by wiping your data with Titanium Backup or wipe your partiation cache and your dilvak cache and then fixing your permission through clockwork.

I think people are having problems because the new modem is new and does not play well with the old programming. Trust me it works but you have to start over and reinstall your programs. You don't have to back to stock but, you do have to do a factory reset thru clockwork 3.0.0.6 and don't do a system restore. I think it bring back some of the old program that causes the FC errors.

I am getting good battery life from this Rom I lost 10% in 9 hours while I was a sleep with my phone overclocked to the 1.2Ghz mininum and maxium with the governor being smartass.

The new modem even caused my copilot gps to stop working because of the market thinks I have a new device. So I had to go online and find a copilot program that would not give me those problems and now my copilot works again.

One more note my speedtest score are the following 6.17 mbps download and 1.19 mbps upload, but I think that was a fluke. My speedtest scores are typically around 3-4 mbps download and around 1 mbps upload. I can finally say I am content with my cell phone. I also receive a text message from sprint about the ota upgrade. But I am going to pass on that one since I don't want sprint ID on my phone and I already have to new and improved EC05 modem.

I personally think a lot of people got screwed using the Syndicate EC05 modem. I believe that one has a lot of problems but the one on the Bonsai Rom website works perfectly!!! I also believe the EC05 modem included in the midnight rom extras works perfectly too.

Thank you Rob for producing such a great Rom!!!!

Re: [ROM] midNIGHT ROM v5 (BYOR Edition)/(FULL Standard Edition) 3/21/2011

I really think we're getting a mixed bag of opinions from people on the new modem. It's work well for some, and not well for others. Some people might have made mistakes installing the rom. We see it all the time in here.

What I did, and is what I always "try " to do when upgrading the roms is the same as what jamice4u said he did that worked well for him. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but this new modem is just causing havoc with me. I don't have the fc's. We all know that's an issue with how you installed the rom by now. My biggest issue I was having was 3G speeds.

When I get home I'm going to rebuild the rom "byob" and start over and see if I can tell what the issue is. I've seen several people say it was a Sprint PRL issue. Hopefully we'll get the full update from sprint soon so we have something to compare against.

I just updated my prl. Here is the link [HOW TO] Update your PRL manually (EPIC 4G) - xda-developers. Also I am using the Standard Edition of the Midnight Rom. The Byor edition has video problems. The Standard Edition to me is the best. It is faster and you run into less errors. You can always remove what you don't want with Sdx Stock App Remover Extras to other applications to your phone. I believe the Midnight Rom is the best Rom I have so far. Also the the new modem is faster than the old modem. If you start fresh you will succeed I guarantee it!!!

P.S. I just made this post using the New Modem with 4G enabled and I spoke to somebody on the phone at the sametime.

Attached is the new Prl and application remover software.

You can also open the ROM with 7zip and remove anything you don't want from the standard edition, giving you the best of both worlds in one flash!
