This begs a question about the overall security of the data used in emails, contacts and other data stored on the Google servers.

Since M$ seems to have the Netflix security taken care, it's time for direct Outlook sync to take away the only security question I have regarding WP.

I had a very strange incident with my G-Mail account last month where four blank messages came in. Nothing strange since.

Microsoft is pushing this "cloud" paradigm, so most syncing will be through their servers.
