New Signature Policies

We've tried to be lenient when it comes to signatures, mainly by allowing you to host images on 3rd party websites and use the img tag here to hotlink them. Unfortunately, some of them have been getting out of hand and we've had to change this policy since its impossible for the staff to request that EVERYONE with a large sig change it.

You'll still be able to use the img tag, but you'll have size limits and will be limited to the number of images you can have, as specified below...

The new rules for now are...
- 150 height x 500 width
- 500 characters max
- 5 lines
- limited BBCode
- 2 images (3 for VIPs)

If your signature is larger than 475px, it will appear in a box with scrollbars. If you want to get rid of this, you will need to edit your signature to be a smaller size, and you will have to use the rules above.

Thanks. I'm just glad that it is more uniform. But how come my image isn't showing up?

Re: New Signature Policies

Because you're probably using an image tag.

You should be able to download the image, then when you edit your sig there will be an "Upload Image" box where you can upload it to the server and it'll insert it into your sig.

So now, you'll notice anyone that had the img tag in their sig will now have a link to where the image was hosted. To fix this, the user must go into the UserCP and edit their signature and upload it to the server.

it says it in there ^^

I just want to say that all of you who were complaining about sigs are retarded! Way to ruin it for everyone. Does it really matter to you if so and so's sig was too big. Ridiculous!!!!!!!

I tried to add my baseline bar back and it's says it's too big. It's just a bar??!?!?!? Am I doing something wrong?

Re: New Signature Policies

I'm changing the file size limit, it was only limited it to 10k lol. Give me a minute and try again.

Re: New Signature Policies

You cannot upload more than one image. It assigns the tag SIGPIC and will only allow you to use the last one uploaded. It also wraps long lines (like ones that make the image link to a site) and counts them as multiple lines. My sig was very compact. I had 4 images, but they were all 350x19. I am OK with removing one, but someone should check out why it's now only letting us get one and not the three in the rules.

Hmm, I'll have to check that. I guess for now we're limited to 1 image until I figure that out.

Re: New Signature Policies

Alright, you can go back to using img tags, but I found a hack that will still limit its size.

VIPs can use 3 and regular users can have 2.

Thanks for taking care of us again Frosty! Can I let someone borrow one of my images since I don't have any in my signature? LOL

Sorry bout that since I didn't know it limited it to 1 upload I had to find a different way to do it.

Re: New Signature Policies

Thanks for the change... I think some of these sigs take up so much room... That there's barely enough space on the page for 3 or 4 comments sometimes. lol.
I think it's fair.
Doesn't affect me though.

Re: New Signature Policies

Thanks Frosty. I got my 3 images now. The only thing still annoying, though, is this:
Quote:

The following errors occurred with your submission:
Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 5 line(s). Long text may have been implicitly wrapped, causing it to be counted as multiple lines.
This occurs with my signature exactly how it is now, but instead of the user bar images in the middle, I have a blank line in the middle and the user bars go on bottom, for a total of 4 lines.

Wideawake and I totally agree with the changes. We didn't mind but it was getting out of hand. :) Thanks a lot!

Good changes, IMO.

I can't add any images to my sig. Says it is turned off.... Work yesterday.

mindfrost82 11-17-2009 10:56 AM

Re: New Signature Policies

Host them somewhere else and use the img tag (or image button) to insert them.

Since I found the hack I'm using I turned off the upload option.

Also delete the sigpic tags.

Re: New Signature Policies

I still have my sig so I'm happy. :D Though bigger avatars would be nice. Another vB forum I used to visit had the profile information on the left side and the posts on the right. That allowed for bigger avatars (yeah I know I get big now for being a VIP). But it's a thought and might make the forums a little nicer visually IDK.

Re: New Signature Policies

No offense Mr.Obvious, but I come to the forums to read the threads and find out cool and helpful info.... not to look at huge avatars and gawdy sigs.

But, that just me.

MrObvious 11-18-2009 06:19 AM

Re: New Signature Policies

Not overly huge, just reasonably big. I agree too much real estate is pointless but a balance can be met. I don't think 80 pixels is enough or whatever it was before and now it is getting bigger and so that's nice. I haven't checked TBH so it may be adequate now.

I have been trying to edit my signature for the past couple days and it keep getting "PPCGeeks Database Error". Wanted to know if this is a known issue or if I am doing something wrong? Thanks!

It's you....

Haha, I am j/k...I don't get that error, what are you trying to change it to? I don't know the technical stuff or I could actually help, but in reality all I can do is ask a couple questions and pretend I know what I am talking about....Does it hurt when I push here?
