50 Posts to access Bargain Trader
 

Due to the amount of spam we have, we have made a requirement that a member has 50 posts to be able to access the Bargain Trader forum.

Once a member gets 50 posts, it can take up to an hour for them to be promoted to gain access. This is an automated task that runs every hour.

If you have 50 posts right now and can't access it, please post a reply here.

This should also ensure that all sale posts are legit.

Is there a way for people with less than 50 posts to still be able to view the threads? I was in the middle of selling a BB and the person buying can no longer view the files I uploaded for them. This way they can still PM the buyer. Usually it is the seller that has the ability to go illigit, with paypal you receive money before sending the product. Even if they could not post in the threads at least the ability to view would be nice.

Could the official raise your post count so you can view the bargain trader forum thread be far behind? ;-)

That makes sense. I just made it so they can view threads, but they still can't post anything. They're more than welcome to PM the seller.

Something like that would have to be in the Off Topic forum.....which no longer counts towards your post count because of that reason lol.

I find this a bit unfair. I've lurked around since 2008 but posted rarely. However, I try to make my posts useful when I do. Is there any way the age of the account or some sort of verification status could be incorporated? I have a SERO 500 plan I'd like to trade for a Touch Pro 2 bargain and no way to post about it =( Your concerns seem are valid, but you're also blocking decent people who just don't post a lot. Thanks for understanding...

you can always cruise the bargain trader section and pm someone when you want to deal.

You know, I agree with you. Many sites have requirements for the bargain center and I think they all need to go. Some people just want a deal. I was just at another site where I was in your shoes and I asked the admin if there was some way and he told me two words... "sorry, no". That was all I heard from him.

Start posting! I understand you saying you want to make useful posts.... posting is like junk... one persons junk another persons treasure....
you might post something you think is useful and another person might not think so... you post something you think isn't useful and someone else might think it's useful.

Forums are to post in, not just for lurking. I too once lurked and just sucked in all the information I could, shoot I did that before becoming a member and after becoming a member... then I decided it was time to start giving back, so I started posting.

As I also agree with you but, I understand. It's not people like you why it was created, it was people who sign up for accounts just to spam.

Too many people take advanage of the free posting in those areas and it hurts everyone.

So, instead of posting once, that I have a SERO F&F 500 I'd like to let people at ppcgeeks.com get a shot at first, I should cruise the forums regularly and send people PMs whenever it seems they might be interested? All because I don't post 'lol' enough :p

I posted a kernel I built on Sunday that fixed double-tap bug in Android for Touch Diamond and Pro, does that count? Oh wait, it was on XDA-dev :p I know what you're saying, and I would like to contribute more, but I don't think 50 posts should be the sole criteria to be able to sell or even post on a sale board... but yeah, it's a tough problem to solve.

Aww, thanks for all the support guys! I PM'd MindFrost so hopefully I will hear back. Since I appreciate the need for the system to keep spammers out by default I think simply being accommodating to serious people with longstanding accounts is an appropriate way to rectify the situation for those of us whom are legit. We'll see what happens!

(Wow.. more posts in one forum than in months hehe =))

maybe the solution could be instead of 50 posts, a $20.00 donation to the site?
I don't know if spammers would pay $20.00 so they can start spamming... or is it that members of the site won't donate $20.00 to get to the bargain trader? I mean how many of us pay to be a member at Sam's or Costco?
What do you think would be a different way besides 50 posts?

I personally agree with the 50 post count. Mbrs that spend the time on here posting and helping others should get first dibs. I do understand that there are instances where some folks have been around a long time but you also have to keep in mind, the 50 post helps weed out the folks that would hop in and give you the run around to try and make a quick buck without giving you a darn thing. I have been on forums where the bargain trading section had a sticky for "People not to do business with". Id say we are doing pretty good considering there isnt one of those in our bargain section.

yeah every post in the "feedback" thread is all good news.

I agree with the 50 post min. If you are an exception just PM Mindfrost for a special post based on the fact that you're not here to scam, but honestly how taxing is it to just post 28 more times, especially maybe since you seem very versed in android head over to the android forums and post a couple of helpful hints, i swear Carla won't bite your head off over there (well, probably not)

Hehe yeah I'm gonna start posting re: Android (see! i'm getting better: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...07#post1642807) if anything this has motivated me to Speak Up! Making WinMo ROMs was not my forte but I can mess with Linux with the best truubergeeks :p I found a Touch Pro 2 for $180 & it's not the end of the world if I sell my SERO 500 on ebay, they go for ~$25 more there anyway. But I'll admit I was just sort of shocked I couldn't post here... though it does seem like 50 posts is the least-hassle way to weed people out. How'd 50 get chosen as a number? Also, yeah I would've donated to the site to sell my SERO, but $20 seems a bit much..

Gah...despite owning Windows Mobile phones for over 2 years I just recently came across this site. lol I just sold my TP2 and am looking to buy a Diamond but don't have enough posts to post in the Bargain Trader forum. 50 posts seems a bit excessive no? lol

not really. just send a PM to the user if you see something you want to buy ;-)

if you are looking to sell then you will need 50 posts which can be acquired in a relatively short amount of time by 'hanging out' and answering (or asking) questions to further expand each others knowledge. that's not too much to ask, is it?

I just sold my touch pro 2. After reading some more threads here, I think I'm gonna pick up a HTC Hero instead of the Diamond.

Yeah the only reason I was considering the Diamond was I figured it would be fairly cheap considering how long it's been out. The Hero isn't exactly new either but at least I'll be able to start partaking in the android world. lol

you can get a Hero for pretty freaking cheap too now that there's 2 better Android phones on Sprint.

I just bought a practically new Hero from a seller here for $100 shipped. Hopefully it's in as good shape as it appeared in the pics.
