6.5 Questions

I flashed to the CC20 rather early, and just stayed there. I've been nervous about 6.5 for some reason - possibly the whole beta, pre-release thing freaked me out. This is my PHONE, dammit! (Or my "girlfriend", as my wife says). I spent money on SPB MS3 and only recently moved to Adryn's 6.1. I flashed to the CF03 and this morning to Adryn's 4.2 Vanilla.

Holy crap. This is awesome. I would not have spent money on MS3 if I had known.

Questions:

1. How do I customize the panels (I'm assuming that this is what the "rows" on the Home screen are called)? Can I add more? Why can't I choose songs from the Music panel? I found an app that appears to allow for some panel customization, but I don't understand how to use it.

2. How do I add applications to the Applications panel? I have tried, but I'm not sure which folder to look in. When I go to all of the folders labeled "Programs" that I can find, there don't appear to be many of my programs in them.

3. I love the new Start menu....I think. How do I customize it? I want to rearrange it....add things to it....remove things from it....but I can't seem to find that in the Settings anymore.

4. Anyone else having a strange bug where when they type online using the XT9 Keyboard in a Web form, when they hit the space bar, a period is inserted inside the previous word? I've had this since CC20.

5. How do I install Adryn's Earth theme from his skydrive? Installing the cab doesn't seem to do anything. And there's no Themes icon in Settings anymore anyway.

Overall, I am DEFINITELY buying Adryn a beer for this....

1) There is a program called CHome editor in the 'Programs' menu. Open that bad boy up and you'll see a list off to the left showing which panels are currently showing (enabled). The drop down box towards the right shows all the panels available. Just click on one to activate/deactivate it. When you're done, click 'Save Order' and then hit the 'Exit' softkey (don't hit the 'X' at top right). Remember, most, but not all panels will work at this time

2) Look in both the 'Program Files' folder on the device memory and in 'Program Files' on the 'Storage Card'. You'll have to poke around in the folders there to find either the .exe file or the .lnk file for he program you want. That's the link to your app.

3) There's a program called re/START over at XDA that lets you customize the start menu. Look here.

4) There are still a handful of bugs with the standard XT9 keyboard. You're only sure fix is to download a third-party keyboard. I use FingerKeyboard2. Give it a shot

5) Can't help you with this one since I haven't ever used this theme. But 4 for 5 aint bad ;)

And yes, Mobile Shell 3 is awesome

Sweet. And which version of the keyboard should I try on that page? Is the Omnia VGA or QVGA or WQVGA...

WQVGA

Edit: And if you want to make it even better, once you install FingerKeyboard, download the two attached files to your phone and then overwrite the ones in the fingerkyboard skins folder. So if you install it to the 'My Storage' card, take the attached files and paste them in \My Storage\Program Files\FingerKeyb\Skins

If you do it properly, it should ask you to overwrite the files. Say yes.

All credit on this one to Omega Ra. I got these files from his post over at Modaco (post #251)

PS - The files need to have dashes, not underscores!! If after downloading them they have underscores, change the file name to have dashes instead. Otherwise FK2 won't see them. Also, these skins only work in English, AFAIK

Where are you finding the icons for the programs?

There aren't really any icons, and there's no fancy way to do it. You just need to browse in the folder where you know your programs are installed (usually in 'Program Files') and find either the .exe or the .lnk file for the program you want.
