Omnia - Can't Control Sounds!

I'm looking for a way to suppress startup, shutdown tones, and phone call "send" command tone. Both Verizon and Samsung techs say the OS has no commands for any of this!
Example scenario: Phone was shut off for charging, and left shut off by choice, when I suddenly had to view a stored document. I power on the phone, and a series of tones comes blasting out in a quiet room!
Windows computers and even my Verizon XV6800 have commands for no sounds during select functions. How can it be that WM6.1 doesn't? I know I can use the PDA slider, but that would make me have to remember this well in advance. Can someone please direct me to a hack for this (cab or registry)? I'm not quite ready to do a ROM upgrade, yet. I just activated my Omnia today, but am fairly familiar with PPC and Windows Mobile.

Thanks in advance.
Patti
