Streaming TV
 

I've been searching for a few days now for a TV app that has shows like discovery, cnn, some cartoon stations, comdey central and so on. I have yet to see a app like that except for Vcast which is not included in the VZ Omnia i910 programs and cannot be downloaded for it. Anyone have any TV apps that you've come across and are worth checking out?

there are a few tv apps out there like spb and some others google may help you but most of them you have to pay for

Thanks for the quick response. I have spb TV which is ok... and I've seen the ones you have to pay for, but I was just hoping that a freeware tv app existed somewhere..

If you have a TV tuner on your PC/laptop at home, and have it hooked up to your cable line, then you can use Orb and watching live TV that way. It's free, and it's great.

Sling box. I bought a Hava from woot.com thinking it might work, just as well and save me some money......I was wrong the mobile software from the hava is TERRIBLE. With a little paying around you can get it to work but only in portrait. Hava's support is legendary by now for being terrible and they're dev debartment releases updates at the rate I buy phones. I haven't tried the slingbox to be honest, but it can only be better then the HAVA.

Tried to use Skyfire to watch Hulu, but it was no go. :-(

I found this little app called WebTV here..... It transfers the streaming feeds to your WMP or coreplayer ect... It's ok as long as the feed is not dead... I don't know if anyone checked it out or not. I included the cab file in the zip if anyone was interested. I believe you can also add channels so it's ok.

+1 for Orb...

If you have a computer at home, chances are you leave it on. If so, purchase a cheap TV tuner. I suggest the Hauppage WinTV PVR 150. Then go to Orb's download site and install the latest version of Orb. You'll also have to purchase a cable splitter and a strip of new cable to split the line going to your TV and run the new split to your computer.

I do not suggest doing this if you have anything less than a 1Mbps Upload speed (broadband speed) becuase less would severely impact your picture quality.

All-in-all, your cost out of pocket would be less than $30 if you played your cards right. This will give you not only the option to view ANY channel you can view at home, but it also gives you the option to record live TV just as you would with a Tivo system... and on top of that, you can schedule your recordings remotely via Orb. So if you forget to record your favorite show one night... no problem, log into Orb from your mobile phone or any computer connected to the net, pull up the guide, and hit the record button. Problem solved.

I've had a problem with Mobile IE changing the resolution of the video stream, but I've found that Opera or Iris will keep the video stream at full screen resolution.

The only downside to this is that there are SO MANY options in Orb. It is not designed specifically as a TV/video streaming app, so that means you can't just run the app with 1 click and expect to be watching TV within a minute. You have to open your mobile browser, log into Orb, and open the TV app within Orb.

IMO, Orb is way better than any of the TV apps currently available for mobile phones becuase those apps only have a few channels that I actually WANT, whereas, Orb has any channel you have at home.

Wow... You really make orb sound great! I will have to try it. I don't have a tv tuner in my pc as I mostly use it for development. I'm definitely gonna pick one up now. I have comcast so hopefully I will get that 1mbps+ speed. It should be at least 5 mbps but either their being cheap with the bandwidth or their isn't enough pbx boxes in my neighborhood. Can anyone confirm if the stream is good using the comcast network?
