Rom Dump/Creating Custom Rom
 

Hello everyone. i will be attempting to dump the rom from my telus i910 tonight using the rapi tools provided over at XDA forums. and the steps found in this post....i will be doing this will lots of coution as i don't want to brick my phone. The steps talk about i900 i'm assuming this would still work with the i910. any reaso why it should not. any chance of just the dump bricking my phone? i would love to see/make custom roms for us telus users.

also found another thread that i will be reading specifically about the i910.

wow been doing some reading now(instead of working lol) and i'm a little confused. 2 parts ro the roms on these phones. if i just want the PDA part cause the telus omnia already has gps unlocked how do i know wich part is the PDA part?(lots more reading to do tonight i see...now back to work)

You can't really make a custom rom with a dump.

However, Ive been told that Telus users have issues just with the battery driver using the Verizon cooked roms.

So if you can get me the rom dump, I'll see if I can pull the battery driver out of it and insert it into my rom.

If you feel like tasking some risks in flashing it, of course.

sure thing...will see if i have time and can get a good dump tonight...might take a few tries as i have not ever done it...but i'm sure i will manage...

No rush/ I dont even know how to extract the files from a dump. So if you run across that tidbit of info, let me know.

ok i will be looking into that as well....i think linux maybe can be used for sure to access the files....but i will try a few things...might send you a zip with the extracted stuff instead of a raw img.

here is something i just thought of...when i do a dump does it also dump ESN and stuff like that?...i would not think it does just my mind at work lol

so i got a dump. but i was not able to extract any of the files within it...plus it is broken up into 3 files(because of the only tutorial i found that worked) and i'm not even sure how i would go about flashing this on my phone. it ended up 2 files of about 2mb and 1 144mb file. i know the bulk of the info is in the last file but could not find anything explaining what was in the other 2. i will keep playing this week(probably more weekend) and see what i can come up with. i can get the image to mount in linux but it sees nothing in it. i have a feeling that either the file is encrypted or that it uses a FS not recognizable to anything but a smartphone/pda. gotta be someway the info is all theire.....

well when i dumped i just called .img but i could have used anything else as the extension....as for the actual format of the data inside this file i'm not sure.

ok...i actually found a couple of tools(tool called dumprom over at xda not sure if it's for same purpose)/tutorials i want to try first...i will try to get to it tonight or sometime this week.

Let me know if you have something good out for it. I have the official Telus rom but I can'T extract anything form that, I can only flash the phone to stock rom.

I'm very unhappy with that :|

so i was able to dump the data from one of the files i dumped from my phone. i know it's the phone part cause it has all the winmo stuff. but i can't get it into a flashable format. i'm uploading what i have now will post links soon. what tools can i use to make this flashable? i used itsutils to dump and the imgfs set of tools to extract the data. when i try to make it into something flashable i get:Maximum ROM size (0x8000000) reached, aborting!

yhea this is simply the data extracted from the part02 that i dumped.i don't know wich files are the drivers but they should be theire.

man this is going to drive me crazy tho i can't get it back to a flashable format now...if i try to use imgfsfromcump i get this error Maximum ROM size (0x8000000) reached, aborting! what am i doing wrong....i used this method to get my dump http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-g...-instructions/

so i have the 3 files and i extracted the data from part02(wich should be the os) the other 2 parts wont dump(i'm probably just using wrong tools as i think one of them is XIP not that i know that much as of right now) anyways anyone have any idea how to take this part02 file and get it to a flashable format?

As I understand, its a pretty difiicult feat (if not impossible) to flash a rom dump back onto a phone.

I made a rom using the Telus battery driver and provisioning.

I make no promises on how it works. So its at your own risk. Its a modification of my 1.3 rom.

You have a stock Telus ROM image that can be flashed?

What I mean is, can you flash Adrynalyne's Telus 1.3 Fixed then flash back to stock? Or will you be stuck with a non-stock ROM like us VZW users?

so Adrynalyne i tried to flash your rom but could not get it to work. i start up UDML select the file let it load then i tunr my phone off and click on detect i then plug my phone in and power it up UDML says win32 usb initialize(or something like that) with an option to click ok(wich i do) then my phone just starts normaly and the image never downloads. what am i doing wrong here.

Its probably just as well. Im being told there are other driver issues too, although the battery works :)

The dump is not providing all the drivers. So I am going to scrap the rom.

I know what you are doing wrong, but I am going to caution you against using this rom.

(Turn off usb connections in activeSync/Windows mobile drvice center).

i c so what are the chances of me renaming the file i dumped to .bin and that flashing...think this would work?

Its missing drivers. The dump is incomplete. No amount of renaming with change that.

well than kinda sucks...why would it not dump everything now....good thing i did not get your rom to flash i would be stuck with something that don't work good...

i know this is a pretty dead topic, but a while back, i was able to create a Telus ROM off of a dump, that booted. Now, the battery driver works, but i get no network connections. but my project has been halted because i had to reinstall windows, and lost my progress.... but if anyone has anyting that might be useful, i'll take it! i do most my work at omnia hub/s forum over there.. (sorry, not trying to advertise anything)
