when the Idoctor says change the settings from connect via USB through activesync to mass storage, does he mean my storage or mass storage? and is that in settings connections or or settings system?

I don't recall changing to either of those options when I flash...

The only thing I've changed was to uncheck "Allow USB Connections" in ActiveSync. File > Connection Settings

yeah, what seanosaur said..... the only think that you should have to change is on the active sync program "not to allow usb connections" before you flash.

When you tell ActiveSync not to use USB, it frees the USB connection of the PC for use by the UMDL program to flash the ROM.

The flash occurs during the boot loader execution when the phone is powered on. Since this is way before the phone would normally load WM6.1, it doesn't matter what the USB connection in the phone is set to.

What's funny is, last time I flashed (from 1.0 to 6.5 then to 1.3) I had forgotten to uncheck the box in ActivSyne and it still worked...
