What is Connected Home?

I can't seem to find any information on it online, and (shock!) the Verizon rep was less than helpful. And what is a renderer?

Where are you seeing this "Connect Home"?

Re: What is Connected Home?

It's one of the applications in the Programs folder on the Verizon Omnia i910. There is a green icon, and it asks for a DLNA Server and for me to select a renderer from a list that is empty. When I Google it, I only get a list of pages previewing the Omnia and indicating that this is one of a list of new features (dated in the fall of 2008).

OT: There's that 8) bug again. Mods can someone change the Smiley from"8" then ")" to " " then "8" then ")" then " "?

Most Smileys use leading and trailing spaces to prevent unintentional Smiley display.

You should find what you're looking for here. 129 Hits Googling only Verizon.com.

Re: What is Connected Home?

I believe it's an interface for media sharing with other connected devices on the home network via WiFi. Other connected devices may be limited to Verizon FIOS devices and/or services however.

Re: What is Connected Home?

This app sets up the phone to stream your phone's media over WiFi (music, pics/videos) to any DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible device, like a Playstation 3 or any Windows PC for example. What this will let you do, then, is access the stuff stored on your phone (pictures from a weekend trip) and show them off on the TV without having to copy them over to anything.

You need a Samsung TV that has DLNA support...

Ah.....I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to use it - apparently that assumption was correct, LOL. Thanks for the info!

Re: What is Connected Home?

I don't think it's limited to just Samsung TV's as there are many other DLNA compliant devices out there. Though I can't find any official documentation about it anywhere, someone could try connecting it to their home router and looking on a PC to see if anything shows up.

Re: What is Connected Home?

i've connected it to my router using wi-fi and could see both my laptop and my xbox 360. on my laptop i could actually browse through shared folders but got an error when i tried to play them on my phone. the error was "network busy!". and that's as far as i got.

Re: What is Connected Home?

I could see 4 DLNA servers on my network as I have multiple between win7 machines/xbox/playon server/windows home server etc.... however I could somewhat browse the folder trees but when I got more then 1-2 levels deep towards actually getting to videos it would just stop saying it found stuff ie no more folders/files.. I was able to get it into a picture folder on one machine and "play" the picture from my file server so it definitely is a DLNA client and maybe server too I'm guessing but it definitely has some bugs going on it seems. I need to try it out as a "server" and see if I can possibly yank my pictures from the camera off that way...

I'm still looking for a good way to sync my pictures over the wireless directly to my pc as I'm starting to use this quite a bit like a normal camera.
