Beginning Skinning
 

Hi there everyone. First off, thanks for the great resources. I've already found some killer apps to add to my i910 Omnia.

I'm wondering if anyone can point me into the right direction to get some skinning / theming setup. I've read a few threads that talk about replacing some bitmaps and backgrounds, but I am mainly looking how to change / use another dialer and general Today 2 themes.

Any places I should look to maybe boil it down and not be overwhelmed?

Well, in short, visit the dialer skin thread. It has resources for both the Windows mobile dialer and samsung dialer.

Some things to note:

1. All files go into \Windows. All files must keep same name, same size (dimensions), and same type. Obvious hurdles are for example: WM dialer supports transparency, albeit somewhat poorly. Samsung dialer does not at all.

2. Back your stuff up!

3. Samsung Today 2 resources are kept within the file secstres96.dll in your Windows directory. It will require something like PE Explorer to hack it. Plus, you must re-sign the file after, or Windows Mobile will refuse to load it.

4. Samsung Today 1 resources are kept within minitdyres96.dll. All of the above in 3. applies as well.

5. Main Menu resources are kept within launcher.exe.t1.skin. Same resource hacking, does not need to be re-signed.

That should keep you busy for a bit :D
