Transfer files using wifi?

Can you transfer files between a computer and the Omnia using wifi? I don't have a bluetooth adapter and would like to transfer smaller files over wifi. Can someone tell me how to do this? I tried searching but didn't find anything. Thanks!

well I tried but my laptop cannot see my phone on the network...there may be some software that is needed for that...other then that bluetooth is the only way I know of to do this without activesync...

good luck!

I can see the device on the router but can not get access from my PC. I will dig more on this, there can be some decent conveniences if we can browse the Omnia from a PC while just attached to the router.

You can not sync or transfer files with Activesync and wireless. The ability to do this was removed by Microsoft as a security measure.

It might be possible with an adhoc type of setup though I don't know of anyone that has successfully done it.

i believe a google search should get it, i remember either someone in the comments talking about it or a thread where you can have your phone show up on the network and be able to access it. hmmm...if you set it up as a storage drive and share it...wouldnt that do it?
i dont have a network setup here no more to test it.

I want to ask what exactly you meant about bluetooth? Do you mean activesync with a bluetooth connection or an FTP client or other?

I've been trying to find out how to replace the obexftp program that I believe came on my samsung i760. I took that sucker for granted back then. It would search for bluetooth devices, find my desktop, connect and allow me to copy files back and forth (that weren't huge).

ObexFTP seems to missing from the Omnia. I see its dll there but not an executable.

Am I missing something obvious the Omnia has for bluetooth FTP or do you use a 3rd party client? If so what?

I've used TotalCommander's ftp client but that uses the internet and only to real ftp servers instead of bluetooth.

Re: Transfer files using wifi?

I use Resco Explorer and it has the ability to map network drives. I have a shared folder on each of the 4 PC in my house that I use to move files around. After attaching to the network and mapping these shared folders, I am able to move a file to and from my Omnia (using the Omnia). I have not looked to see if the PCs can see the PPC, but this works for me.

Re: Transfer files using wifi?

Set up your computer with file and printer sharing turned on. Share a folder on your computer. Make sure your PPC is connected to your home router and is on the same subnet as the computer. Go into File Explorer on the PPC and pick Open from the menu. In the open dialog type "\\computername\sharename" and press enter. The computername is the netbios name of your computer and the sharename is the share name you gave to the file share folder when you shared it on the PC. Remember to share a folder on the PC you need to right click on the folder and select properties and use the sharing tab.
