Official ROM is here - OK - Why should I update?

I'm currently running Adrynalyne's 1.6 ROM, and the official ROM is now released.

Why should I install the new update? What are the benefits over the CC20+Adrynalyne's various cooked ROM versions?

I now have a bunch of free memory, my GPS works (quickly and consistently with Google maps and IGO 8, and everything seems stable.)

I know new ROMs will be made on top of the CF03, but it seems like the upgrade process almost always introduces more bugs (i.e. - any Windows OS updates).

Does anyone know of any significant fixes or enhancements beyond unlocking the GPS?

Please advise.....

If ur happy with ur current ROM then don't flash...there's no rush...but if something happens and u need to return ur Omnia...flash to the official ROM and u won't have to worry about any warranty issues...

It does make sense in the case of a return to Verizon, but chances are, something is going to happen while there is a cooked ROM onboard, either based on the CC20 or CF03. Either way, Verizon won't be happy that the phone was flashed with a cooked ROM. And if I'm returning it, I probably won't be able to flash it to the original state anyways.

Re: Official ROM is here - OK - Why should I update?

I was hoping to hear that the CF03 does something 'magical' to improve some original shorcomming that has not been overcome by the good folks in this forum (and others)...

Also - this thread was kind of a rhetorical question, in the absence of an official bug fix list. But I'm sure other people are wondering also.

well if thats the case they won't know its flashed unless you tell them...as of yet I only noticed that it soft resets much quicker for me...I'm still testing other things one by one...google maps works...I wasn't able to get it to work on CC20...no 1% battery increments...but I saw a fix for that on Modaco...have to wait til the wife wakes up to test the SMS problems I was having on CC20...

but no real reason to run and flash if there's nothing wrong with ur setup as it is...

I somehow have piece of mind that the ROM I"m using is 'official'....maybe it's all in my head, but I feel a little bit more at ease and confident.

Re: Official ROM is here - OK - Why should I update?

We may be missing the point. The official ROM takes place where cc20 was flashed (for those that flashed it) That is only one portion of the function of the phone. Most of the Upgrades offered on this site and others are PDA ugrades. the PDA lies with the ROM to give it "Character". So really even with the new official ROM many are still enjoying flashing one of several upgrades here. I personally like Adrynelyn's M2D. For instance, his upgrade does not wipe out the official ROM so to speak. There may be software included with the original that is gone that may be the only issue for some. "Its just a roll of the dice"

Re: Official ROM is here - OK - Why should I update?

I upgraded. Very very painless. The instructions on their site were spot-on. The device feels just like it did before. I have not seen much improvement in speed or anything.

The biggest change however is the GPS. Wooooooooooooot does this rock. TomTom got a lock the two times I've used it within 15 seconds. Used it this morning on the way to work. Sitting on the seat next to me it was perfect, had me exactly on the roads where I was to the foot.

All of my other apps are working fine just as before as well (including tethering).

Re: Official ROM is here - OK - Why should I update?

I ran the official upgrade. Instructions were great. Everything seems to be working well. I still am not getting any locks on the gps. The location is set to on. In Google Maps, I've set it to Managed by windows. is there something else I'm missing?
