i910 omnia video call option question???

I have an i910 and recently when I tried to call my wife , under her name in the phone book was a video call tab. I am very interested to know how it got there.

I have tried everything and had no luck with GOOGLE, has anyone else had/seen this.

I am using VZOchat 1.2 for video calling now but it being on does not add this tab. any help????

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

i believe they just took the gsm i900, chopped and screwed it to work with verizon, but forgot (or neglected) to take out the i900 features. video calling being one of them.
but no deal for us being that cdma will not allow us to use video calling :)
you could use qik though :)
google it

When you look up a contact. You can't do video call anyway on CDMA.

the camera is not there...if you compare the I900 to the I910 you will see in the pictures the I910 does NOT have the front camera...

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

I know it does not do video call, I know it does not have a camera. What I am trying to figure out is why the VIDEO CALL option (button) appeared.

when i look at contacts there is no option, but one time there was.

Could it:

a:The location I was in had it enabled in the towers
b:something I did in the registry
c:fluke thing that happend

what gets me is when i saw it, i youtubed it to see what it was and on the i900 it was right where i saw it.

I already told you how it happened.

No US carrier currently suppoerts video calling. Beside for that you generally need two cameras. The US carriers moddify the phones to remove the 2nd camera.

I would call it a fluke.

Really? I cant think of any models that have video call features on ATT.

Not saying you are wrong, but please, tell me which models.

There are a couple of phones on AT&T that claim to have video calling...The HTC Fuze, and the non WinMo Samsung Eternity (which says Video share capable) to name a couple...but this feature has got to be limited and I doubt its even close to what they're doin in Japan which by the way has had 2way video calling for at least 5 years...probably more...

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

Yeah thats not really the same thing. Video sharing is one way only, and is subscription based. The Fuze has a rear camera only AFAIK, so no video calling there either.

the point is why are poeple clammering about something no one uses? or that not enough people are using to even show this much intrest in it?

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

To test your video call camera, look for the hidden file "GrandPrixFrontCameraTest.exe" in \Windows

I've tried it on my i900 and it does work, the camera in the upper right corner. I don't believe the i910 has the camera

some questions just go no where.](*,):protest:

i900 assuming has an option for video calling when in the contacts menu, right? well the i910 does not. no front camera nor does verizon allow it.

for a while i have been using VZOchat for video calling on my i910 and it does it quite well. and just one day the video call tab showed up where it never was before, in the contacts menu.( next the the contact picture)

now, if the is someone with an i900 who can send me a copy of the i900 registry I myself would like to figure it out.

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

I'm saying, you saw it precisely where I mentioned. I've seen it too. I do not now, however.

Here is a theory.

Upon Hard reset or initial software usage however, you wanna look at it, the option is enabled. Now, assuming that the software requires a front facing camera to video call (and it does), once it detects that there is no front facing camera, the option is turned off.

My thought is, the people who have seen it on their i910 caught glimpse of it before this hardware detection took place (or missing hardware detection), and as such, saw the option, but it was greyed out. The same greyed out behavior takes place when there is no 3G available on the i900.

So here are the most likely possibilities.

1. When you lose EVDO signal, the option appears, but greyed out. (Less likely)
2. Its a glitch with initial camera detection by the dialer. (More likely)
3. Its a glitch where the back camera is confused by the dialer for a front camera. (Possible)

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

now that's the answer I was looking for, =D>

Thank You:headbang:

now, assuming it is an option that is deactivated I wonder where in the registry this option is located.

I did find though in HKLM/Software/Samsung/VT
there is an option for VMODE which is set to "0" but when set to "1" the SMS menu/screen freezes

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

I think the obvious question here is why? As in why are you even trying to play around with the front video registry keys when the i910 does not even have a front camera??? :) If you were trying to reroute the camera feed from the back while enabling the registry values for video conferencing, that's not going to do you any good on the other end of the line if the same hacks have not been applied to the receiving phone. Either way you would not only need to edit the registry... you would have to (most likely) recompile your own version of the dialer and the camera API (for all phones involved). My point is that it does not seem worth the effort when CDMA doesn't even support it. You could very well get it working for all I know... but if CDMA doesn't support the feed, it will all be for not. You wouldn't even be able to test it to make sure it was working properly.

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

hahahahahaha, I've gotta laugh at this, only because this thread completely captured my attention from start to finish.

My wife is from Japan (native) and when we were dating, I had the opportunity to work there for a while and got a chance to experience first hand video conferencing. Completely unreal... I miss it. Good times though. I don't think it will ever really catch on here.

Anyway. Thanks for the entertainment, hope you get that 2 way video conferencing up and working!!

Re: i910 omnia video call option question???

I have a GSM plan with Vodaphone for use in Asia (my wife is from China, native if that matters but since CW mentioned it I thought it might be significant). The plan includes 30 minutes per month of video calls then jacks the rate when I go over. I can buy more but the price is pretty significant so we don't use it much. It is a sweet function but also inconvenient to use in most circumstances. MMS video on VZ in the US is real short but lets people see you talk if but only for a few words.

Did you upgrade your ROM to CF03? If so, that is when you got the inactive video call tab in contacts, that's when I saw mine. Like others said the new CF03 is a hacked i900 ROM made to work with the i910, that is why the ghost video call tab is there. I wish we could use it, I think it would be cool.
